Default A Problem Here, Corolla Diesel

I have Corrolla 2.0d 2003, its been very recent in the past couple of days, that when i turn on th eignition switch it, like coughs 5 to 6 times, for say, and then starts. I didnt have thise problem before.

Again on the issue of Flash Lights, the lights wont flash whne i pull the indicatior stick, but when the dim lights are on then the High Beam works, other than that it doesnt work. Hope i explained the problems well.

the starting issue may be related to a bad alternator while the lights may be acting up simply due to a bad fuse.

    have them checked both.....

crazy....i dont see any reason why he should get his car tuned due to these problems.

crazy..just so you can learn something that will benefit you.....tuning doesnt meaning boosting HP either.

tuning typicall involves maintenance on a car's electrical and mainstream fuel system.

    @Lakhum
when diesel engine starts coughing( the way you defined ) its most probably the heaters (local mechanic won't understand anyother name for it, i think the real name is glow plugs.. even i don't remember it now ). replace the heaters but before that do confirm it with a mechanic.

Get the diesel pump and injectors checked, they might be needing service. As far as the flash light is concerned, it may be due to a blown fuse or the flash switch attached to the stick!

Diesel engine has no issues of tunings like petrol operated vehicles.People mostly refer to it as MAINTAINANCE FREE ENGINE.Petrol engine feul average decreases as it is being used due to increase in Spark plug gaps,Disturbance in CO mixture due to bad petrol,Disturbance `Tapid` Settings(Non Cam Type Petrol engines). These issues are not valid for diesel engines.

    Diesel Regular Maintainance Schedule:-
    1-First Oil Change At 1000km
    2-Periodic Oil Change at 3000km
3-Replace Oil Filter after 6000km(With Every Second Periodic Oil Change)
4-Repalce Air Filter at 10000km(Clean it Weekly)
    5-Replace Diesel Filter At 12000-15000km
    6-Replace Timing Belt at 90000km

For your present Issue.Follow Step By Step To Catch The Problem with Starting:-
    1.Check Battery
    2.Check Engine Glow Plug/Heaters
3.Check Diesel Filter for Clogging/Mild Water Residue
    4.Check and Clean Engine Atomizers

    For Electrical Problem:-
1.Check All Fuses And Wiring for Short Circuits
2.Check the Light/Indicator Switch/Stick for damage due to prolong use.

shaan...agree with the list u posted except the oil filter change. its a universal standard that with every oil change (regardless of timing or reason), the oil filter should be replaced also.

oil filters are cheap and it serves a good reason to have them changed to prolong engine life and performance.

@szuberi thanks for your comments but the oil filter period is advised by TOYOTA itself but i agree that if changed with every oil change will keep engine wear and tear more reduced than with consecutive oil change.

Get heaters checked. u can check these yourself as well. I used to check them after like 2 years in my Nissan 1.7D.
For flash lights, u need to get the woring checked from a good electrician.

either heaters, or battery. trouble with either of these has the same symptoms. can be a number of other things too.

@shaan: NON-CAM engines??? (`Tapid` Settings(Non Cam Type Petrol engines)). The engine has no CAM SHAFTS? do u mean they dont have OVERHEAD cams? cuz that makes more sense, but NO CAM engines? how comes i never heard of those???
