Thread: Noise from steering of corolla 2010

    Default Noise from steering of corolla 2010

    Hello fellow Pak Wheelers,

    I started hearing slight thumping sound comming from my steering when I am driving on really bumpy roads, especially when I drive over the cat eyes speed breakers, The car has done nearly 65K I tried visiting the local mechanic but the shrewdness of these people really repels me. I decided to take it to the service centre, just want to know what is the expence difference between the Toyota Workshop and the local mechanics. Secondly what all precautions and things should I check before I visit which might save my trip and solve the problem.

    thumping sound from steering may be one of the following reasons?

    1. power steering rack mounts are loose. park ur car on level surface. ask someone to move the steering on both sides while u inspect the rack. there should be no movement in the rack at the points where it is attached to chasis.

    2. U- joint which connects ur steering column with PS rack usually located inside car cabin near brake pedal may be mis-aligned or worn out due to wear and tear or no lubrication. it even gets mis-aligned if u hit a bump or any other pit in speed.

    3. check ur alignment.

    4. jack up the car front. hold tyres at 3'o clock and 9'o clock and then 6'o clock and 12'o clock and try moving them side ways and back and forth. there should be no movement. tyre should be stiff. if it has movement then problem is with ur tie rod end ball joints or wheel bearings.

    5. last but not the least, check ur PS pump for any whining noise, PS fluid level and colour, and any leaks in the hoses of PS. may be there is air in ur system and that can be seen if there r bubbles in fluid once car is started and wheel is moved lock to lock

    Guys I ve already got an appointment with Toyota Islamabad motors but I want to know if there is any other local mechanic in Pindi or Islamabad for the said problem. Secondly any good place that you can recommend for getting the tuning of the 2010 corolla?

    Anyone who can recommend a good mechanic in Rawalpindi and islamabad who can look into this problem. Anyone who you have personally interacted with and can vouch for his work. Dont worry I wont hold you responsible if he screws up, just for the peace of mind

    i also had this problem once with my car which i recently have solved.. some mechanics saying that car hisa work is required but my car milage was just 35k so at last i took it to a local mechanic he greased some part of my car something called ''kaghi'' and the ride was smooth again like new just 200 rupees spent n peace of mind ..so i think ur car just need greasing as u have got toyota 2010 and it should not have a major problem on just 65 k miles,

    Can you please suggest the mechanic. I heard diamond and saeed engineerring at gawalmandi are good, I tried visiting there, the mechanic told me the steering bush require changing and have me an estimate of around 6000. Any suggestions

    Was your car involved in a serious accident? Any problem with a Corolla's steering at 65k is too early unless your car has hit something at a seriously high speed. Steering system on Corolla is very reliable and doesn't need any maintenance until a couple of hundred thousands kilometers if driven carefully and reasonably.

    Not at all, I ve driven the car with utmost care. I drove al the way from Karachi to Pindi and it was excellent. Still now on normal roads I mean city roads on small bumps there is no noise in the steering but in a little speed when I go over the cat eyes I feel slight thumps in the steering. The mechanic in gawalmandi said the steering bush need changing and will cost around 5k

    I suggest to stay away from that mechanic in gawalmandi. Your car's steering is absolutely fine. Your "thump feeling" threshold seems to be very low. I also suggest to drive another similar car and compare it's "thumps" with yours. I hope you will find no difference.

    I am currently experiencing the same problem in my corolla 2011, 24K driven i think your 2nd point "U -joint alignment" is the problem, and i am very much sure about this, because my Unity lock may cause to mis-aligned this part, now what is the solution? can it be realigned?

    Sir God knows ke whats actually broiling in my head lekin sir, trust me your reply really made me feel relieved. I was thinking ke waqai mera weham hai, but then I remembered ke ye thumping sound mechanic ki hi point out ki hui hai. I never realized it before. Last night I drove a Mitsubishi Double Cabin and it had a very "thummpy" steering. I came back at 3 in the night, gardi nikali and started driving and checked the thumps, Double Cabin ke baad apni gardi ki thumping feel hi nahi hui. And then I realized mechanic ne bhi drive kiye baghair hi kaha tha ke steering se awaz aati hai, how would that idiot know that without driving. No doubt mai apni hi bewakoofi ki wajah se sab ko tang kar raha tha but thanks to you, I realized my mistake. Thanks sir, I am obliged

    does ur u-joint look like this all the time whether car is stationary, moving or steering in motion or static?

    before i sold my car had the same problem bro the bushes are loose and the (chimtas) are loose the need to tightened...the sound only comes when u go over a bump or some cat eye it feels like something is loose under the car....if that is the issue ur having...U can visit my mechanic on tipu road opposite to the FUJI tower entrance gate Ask for JAN MOHAMMAD he will take care of it...

    the steering sound is normal it starts after 50k km i was too very confused what to do with it opened the steering column and box just to see what is the issue..found it was nothing but just my WAIHAM...
