Both are same chain driven designs the ZR is oversquare chamber and has dual VVT-i and slightly higher compression they do not require valve clearance for lifetime (that is 72,000 km inspection) unless they make a noise.
Valve clearance should be checked with a dead cold engine 1ZZ FE and ZR and even 3ZZ FE of Se Saloon are extreme high mileage DOHC engines and do not need valve clearance unless the whole system is rebuilt by a local ustaad and not run in properly.
They are roughly 50% more durable than locally available D series Honda and F and G series Suzuki engines.
Toyota Factory settings are .15 .25mm Intake cam and .25 .35mm on exhaust with micrometer.
Even if you need adjustment u have to pull the whole camshaft out of engine as it is shimless.
After that you need to replace the vlave lifter buckets since the buckets on 1ZZFE and 3ZZFE engine are preshimmed to engine specs.
Best to do the job from a Toyota 3S or 2S shop.
Atleast they have the engine manual and schematic.
