Yaar I have faced this problem
There is a ring type thing in your cars steering wheel
      When u open the cover
      U will see it
      That ring contains a wire
      Which is broken
U have to replace that ring thing
      Cost almost 1500 rupees

The item is called clockspring, it also carries wires for the airbag detonator. Toyota can sell you a new one which is very easy to install, just make sure the steering is dead straight, install the unit, break the plastic retainer pin and install the steering wheel.

If you are installing a used one, firstly make 200% sure that the part nos. match up. Then rotate it on one side and count the turns, it has to be exactly dead centre when its installed on the steering shaft. assembly.

btw how did you manage to damage yours? Dont tell me its after you had an alignment.

Mine was also damaged. I found a second hand one from plaza for about 4500, but it also failed after 6-7 months. I asked toyota eastern the price and they quoted, Rs.22000 for the clockspring, and 2000 for the fitting.

was the steering wheel not marked in relation to the shaft. If not then you have to remove the wheel and reseat it correctly. Also make sure the clockspring is not damaged when you reinstall the wheel.
