Some interesting comments about variations of same model on this thread!!
Some of you may be already aware that the BMW 5 series was made available over the years in 518, 520i, 520d, 523i, 525i, 525d, 528i, 530i (inline 6), 530i (V8), 530d, 535i, 535d, 540i, 545i, 550i. And these are excluding the M5 versions!
And yes I know these above BMW models I mentioned were not available in one generation, but rather in different generations!
So now just look at BMW E34 (single model generation) as an example, this generation was offered with 518, 520i, 525i, 525d, 525iX (4WD), 530i (inline 6), 530i (V8), 535i, 540i, M5 (3.6), M5 (3.8). Also all these models (apart from M5) were available in standard and in SE version (upgraded specs), most were available with both auto and manual trannies, apart from M5, which had 5-speed manual in 3.6 and 6-speed manual tranny in 3.8! So all of the above variations were available in same model shape!
BMW also offered De-badged version for all above (without the model number outside) so everyone was left wondering which one is it!!. Though, I guess the tail pipes and some other bits gave it away somewhat!
