In Pk rule # 1. Imported is better than local though the difference between General tire and imported tire is not much more than the cost involved.

No sir ... I object. I never used to change my vehicle's tires and had the same opinion as yours but one time I did and was pleasantly amazed. My father and I own the a similar vehicle but one rides on stock eurostar and one on a branded set of tires .. drive , braking , comfort is miles apart... it is not an exaggeration

On same car over 10 years I have used stock generals, yokos, dunlop and thn came back to general, slight difference. General's Euro Klass directional tires are much better on our broken roads in both wet and dry conditions.

If you drive mostly on paved roads in posh areas of the city then you notice a slight difference.

I have a wide experience with General and it's a reliable tire. Rest it depends on pocket and personal choice. People feel happy with a little less noise and everyone scaring hell out of them that change tires, change tires, Hayyyyyyyyyyn abhee tak tire change naheen kiay???? etc.

Are tires sold in Pakistan stamped with the UTQG ratings on the sidewall?

I vouch for the durability as well. Euro star went 55k kms with one punchure and still some tread on them. BUT THEY ARE NOT COMFORTABLE FOR SURE

AGAIN THIS IS A PERSONAL OPONION

One might argue that suzuki mehran is more comfortable then a Honda Civic or an Audi ... but there is no instumented test to support this argument .. so your are right

Dear autophile .. My experience about Eurostar/General tyre is..

    1. Eurostar/General tyre are good tyres but they become hard after 5000 to 8000 km and on potholes, bumpy roads you wont enjoy your drive with that hard tyres. On the other hand yokohama adven db are soft and comfy tyres till 40000km or more and you enjoy your drive on that.
    2. The reason to change Eurostar tyres immediately after taking delivery is to have good selling price of new eurostar tyes. You can easily sell new eurostar tyres to around 19k four tyres .Yokohama cost you around 32k so you need to pay only 12k and if i am spending around 2 million for the car then i will spend 12k more to have enjoyable drive till 40000 to 60000km may be.

This is what i experienced before.. I may be wrong.

Comfort is yet another subjective opinion since someone may be more comfortable by paying less for transportation. However, there are also objective measures of such things as well, such as interior volume and noise levels. I am right, yes, I know.

But why would the take-off Eurostars sell for so much if they are truly horrible tires?

similar objective measures are road grip and softness of the tire ....... logical is to measure the noise level inside a Mehran and than and then civic but wise would be to draw the conclusion with out the test.

and Eurostars are NOT horrible .. they are durable .. they go loong but they are hard as anything and NOT comfortable.. one needs some cushion to mask the bumpy road conditions in pakistan

May be the company is responding to its customer's demands for a more durable tire with a harder compound with the trade-off of some reduction in grip?

I drove 55,000 kms on Eurostar tire with only puncture in three years and was happy at its durability but the day I switched to a premium brand ... I realized how much was I missing ... a personal preference then , I suppose !

There is nothing wrong with personal preferences as long as others' rights to the same are respected also.

Thumbs down Two terrifying stories about buying an IMC Corolla!

    Dear all,
I came across two terrifying stories about how dangerous an investment it is to buy an Indus Motors' Toyota Corolla.

    1. Chaklala Scheme 3, Rawalpindi.
I came across a gentleman who bought a brand new Toyota Corolla GLi on 'own.' He goes out of town for some time to see his brand new GLi stolen from his porch on his return. The gate-lock was broken and the car was gone. He never bought a Corolla again and got a Honda Civic instead because it is fitted with an immobiliser.

    2. I-8, Islamabad.

This is my cousin's story which is even more terrifying. He goes to a dealership in the evening and gets his brand new Corolla and parks it in his porch. The next day's plan is a visit to the registration office to get it registered. He sleeps feets away from his car in the room next to the porch. The car is gone in the morning.

Forget about the resale value of this dangerous car without an immobiliser and stay away from buying one. If you look around yourself, you will find hundreds of such terrifying stories.

I wonder why the government is sleeping over such an important issue of car theft which can easily be brought down to zilch (zero) just by making it mandatory for all the car manufacturers to install an immobiliser in every car they manufacture just like it is in Europe. Just to give you an example; it is mandatory for all cars in Germany to be fitted with an immobliser produced after January 1, 1998 and in the UK after October 1, 1998. Today is 2015 and we don't have this essential piece of equipment missing in Indus Motors' Corolla. Shame on you Indus Motors and full marks to Atlas Honda for offering it as standard on their Honda Civic. I think it won't be long before we see it on their City as well.

I was about to buy the new Toyota Corolla but stayed away from it because of lack of an immobiliser on this substandard machine.

Such horrifying stories of car theft involving Indus Motors' Toyota Corolla sends chills down my spine.

    Regards.
