The Grande manual mentions 91 Ron petrol. I've heard that we only get 87 rons at the local petrol stations. So should I be using pure high octane instead? Should it cause any harm to the engine?

I find very little use for the ECO button tbh, it effects the driving performance a bit especially for guys like me who cant stand tardy acceleration but it does give a more smoother driving experience. I encourage folks to see what else gets effected when the eco mode is on, for example have a look at the air conditioning see if that slows down a notch as well.

I don't think its an eco MODE. Its just an option to enable/disable the eco zone lamp. Present in altis 1.8L as well.

But that would be pointless,if it only controls the lamp.

What i understand by reading the manual is that the button only turns off the eco indicator, eco mode is always enabled, exept for when the car is travelling at 130 or more km/h.

    Correct me if im wrong.

What possible use could you have for turning off just the indicator ?

Every car manf. recommends high octane but you don't need high octane on regular sedans, like it would make sense to put high octane in a Camaro, mustang or any of the luxury rides. Also Ive seen folks here mixing and matching what kind of gas they put in, stick to one regular is more than enough for a 180 hp sedan anything beyond that is overkill.

'twas a rhetorical question. Im giving Toyota benefit of the doubt here that they have enough common sense not to include a completely useless feature in a vehicle. Therefore I hypothesize that the indicator does indeed turn off the eco mode. There is enough performance difference that one can check it. Doing a 0-60 timing split with ECO on and off should assuage our perturbed brethren and help them regain the sleep lost over this issue.

I beg to differ, as the manual clearly states that the eco mode and eco lamp both turn off at 130 or more km/h.
So my hypothesis is that it is a completely useless function
