I have also been recommenced to get all the seats out and aftermarket sheet on interior the one below the mats
Please don't go for that sheet thing.
    It doesn't look good.
For the solution of mats. Put some black colored (transparent one) plastic mats, and cut the area below accelerator so that sensor can work freely.
    I did the same.
You won't be able to find lock mats from market, they're real hard to find.
Never use carpet mats, they wear out so quickly.
Also, the plastic mats I'm using doesn't slip so easily, that makes life easier while driving. 😎

Which sensor is near throttle pedal, what's its function and how to find out if it is working properly?

Do all toyotas have this sensor I mean what about Camry and Cruisers?

As all employ Drive by wire system.

I haven't checked its power yet due to the same reason of rare empty roads. Its a big body, still power is adequate, when you need that power to overtake someone, it will not disappoint you. Engine noise remains very low and when revved, its sound is pleasant to ears. Both from stand still to running its pick is quite responsive.

However when you are cruising on let say 60km/hr and you immediately push it you get that jhatkha and gear re-engages and provide you adequate power, when you gradually increase the speed to 80 km/l you won't notice gear change but when ever you push it, it will give you same engagement of gear like in manual, I like it, it feels like engine now becomes ready to produce that torgue to push that huge body forward.

Agreed. Its a matter of personal choice though but conventional automatic have this beauty of jerks that has been well put in word by @Sarkaar. i believe the successor to conventional auto isnt cvt but dual clutch transmissions. yes they have their issues but still they are great fun.

Cvt isn't included in the automatic category. It's a continously variable trasnmission while automatic is a whole lot of different story.

Drive by wire is long old acronym for the electronics involved in it.

Let me know which sensor is there at the throttle pedal and what is its transducer type ?

Don't know about its transducer, but the race is being controlled by it. If it malfunction you will get engine check light instantly. That's why don't put anything under it i.e mats

One of thee reason why the OEM mats are cut short at the throttle end was famous incident with Camry in USA where the mat some how became part of the throttle agitation and caused the car to run astray.

Since then the mats are redesigned and no part of mat now stretches below the throttle pedal. On the other end the mat is anchored with a hook with locks.

Ahan, my pedal sensor in my gli got f'ed in 2013. My mechanic told me it's due to double matting. Fixed it up though, but never covered the surface underneath it with mat

There need not to be any sensor at the pedal except a potentiometer and some voltage regulating components linked to the mechanical movement of the pedal converting the throttle input to electrical signal, rest is the work of the drive by wire systems.

You can ask from mechanic what sensor he was talking about.

Accelerator pedal position sensor is the same potentiometer which I mentioned earlier, the mats below can not induce any harm to it. The said sensor takes input from the mechanical movement of pedal.
