Default My test drive of the 2014 toyota corolla grande CVTI

    Hi there,

I just test drove the new 2014 toyota corolla grande CVTI.

I own a 9th gen civic so i shall compare both- i will try to be as unbiased as possible (https://www.pakwheels.com/forums/mem...tec-navigation)

    NB:
These are my opinions and i may be wrong. i just test drive cars and write unbiased views. however if i have upset your toyota heart in any way, please accept my apology in advance and don't go on swearing here and causing the mods any trouble. I am very sensitive and take such comments to heart as well so please be kind however you can argue with me in a positive manner so that we reach a conclusion which benefits all potential buyers here

the boot is huge!!! good for airport taxis- families won't have to book two cabs when they come from a shopping trip

the boot lid is padded, unlike the civic

    compared to civic -

    pros:
    1. rear seats are reclining, they must be better than fixed rear seats
    2. CVTI- i can't praise this tranny enough. seriously, you all have to test drive it to appreciate how good it is
    3. 6 speakers- not an audiophile but i am sure it will have better sound quality than civic
    4. android based navi- again, new navi in civic is out (so comparing it here will be unfair) however it's much better than the previous pre upgraded civics navi.
    5. looks- personal thing, but i love the corollas looks. if only they could sort out that suspension
    6. better quality plastics- you nudge the inner door handle- it doesnt move or feel loose like the civics
    7. boot is padded- i hate my civics naked boot
    8. well protected engine- the civics engine is too bare and in my opinion prone to damage due to dust, etc
    9. the price 2320000 (corolla) vs 2430000(civic with navi)
    10. rain sensing wipers... dunno how effective they are here

    the cons-

    1. no immobiliser!!!
    2. no climate control!!!- and really low quality hard control knobs
    3. aweful looking rear tyre space
    4. steering wheel is bland
    5. poor quality sunroof
    6. no front arm rest- believe me , this will be missed on long drives
    7. ugly clock!!!- they could have added more vents here
    8. i missed the civics IMID and digital speedometer with color changing modes
    9. the civic has rear padded areas between the rear seat and the door sill making long journeys very comfortable - you can lean on that area and sleep easily.
    10. the civic has been around for almost a year and a half- all teething problems have been sorted out and the right now, there is no problem which you might face in a recently launched top of the line technically advanced car
    11. no passenger airbag
    12. no mudflaps- drive behind a car on the motorway at high speeds in teh rain and you shall realise the importance of these small plastic ugly looking, detailers enemy

    conclusion (CIVIC VS COROLLA)

the civic maybe slightly higher in price (1 lac shouldn't make much of a difference who can afford to buy this car) but it's definitely better...
it may lack in quality (the corolla isnt german built either.. look at the sunroof) but immobiliser is a very important thing security wise.
and the corolla doesn't have a passenger airbag... if anyone has been in a major accident, you will realise how important that is.
the CVTI tranny is surely a peach, and the rear reclining seats are very comfortable but this is no reason to prefer the grande over the top of the civic

so to conclude, whoever is confused b/w the civic and corolla (both top of the line), buy the civic. i personally vouch that you won't regret it.. but the civic has to be top of the line.

however if you want a basic saloon car for the family, wait a few weeks till they launch the GLI auto

the grande WILL be upgraded with immobiliser, better alloys and climate control so if you are really pushed to buy a top of the line corolla, it's best to wait for that upgrade

for people who think this particular model is illiterate driver friendly , this notion is no longer true... this like the civic is meant to be driven by the person who dished out 23 lacs and not his driver who reclines the front seat and will ruin the multimedia system while searching for a punjabi radio station while waiting for his sahab.

if anyone wants a driver driven car, wait for the other models to be launched. if you want a nice PKDM to drive, buy the civic.

Probably the display car was parked with help of lifter that's why the suspension is stuck and looking odd.

very nice and thorough review n comparison just like u did when new civic came

just so that people here knw thr r no gear changes in a cvt.its just playing with the cvt pulley ratios.

saying that jis nay corolla lainI hai us nay laini hi hai even knowing the risk of the car getting stolen is highest

Sent from my GT-I9300 using PW Forums mobile app
Life is short and very unpredictable just like a Quarter mile .....
