Default My test drive of the 2014 toyota corolla grande CVTI

    Hi there,

I just test drove the new 2014 toyota corolla grande CVTI.

I own a 9th gen civic so i shall compare both- i will try to be as unbiased as possible (https://www.pakwheels.com/forums/mem...tec-navigation)

    NB:
These are my opinions and i may be wrong. i just test drive cars and write unbiased views. however if i have upset your toyota heart in any way, please accept my apology in advance and don't go on swearing here and causing the mods any trouble. I am very sensitive and take such comments to heart as well so please be kind however you can argue with me in a positive manner so that we reach a conclusion which benefits all potential buyers here

Negative points you mentioned are true. like: Central air vents are not good lookin, my bro said they look like old Mark 2. clock shouldn't be there. hight of car is more than previous, AC knoobs are realy ugly even in previous modle.
I think There are few small things which create beauty iand Motor Car companies in PK do not care about them and I saw lot of people do not think. there are too many examples. i notice there are LEDs in front parking lights in international Model and indus motors just put a bulb there.

It will be very easy to be honest - just drop down a gear or two using the paddle shifts and zoom past any car, even a civic prosmatec - and yes I own a civic prosmatec and yes I believe that the grande CVTi will easily beat it since you can downshift to get that extra torque.

Reclining Seats are similar to what you see in the economy class seats of an airplane, or a daewoo bus - they recline by 10-15 degrees I guess. This makes the rear passengers able to slant back and makes the journey more comfortable.

What you're talking about are folding seats... Ie they fold forwards to increase boot space.

I have just noticed that every corolla thread on this forum eventually turned into a war zone and had to be closed and cleaned up by the mods.

However this thread is still going clean and we have had a very pleasant debate about the car.

I'm glad everyone is keeping peace here.

PS: its funny to see that civic threads don't turn into a war zone, however the Corolla threads are closed almost every week - shows how much people love the Corolla and will swear and curse at others who try to defame their beloved cars despite knowing the rules and regulations of this forum - true emotional toyota fans

Honda fans don't really care what people say about their cars.

Yes it is faster by only 0.2 seconds
And this new engine 2 ZR-FE has different outputs between 137 hp to 141 hp we get 139 hp from our local altis
So here if the conditions are same for both cars civic will beat altis from 0 till end

loving those unbiased reviews on multiple things of the car, still if I had such kind of money I would opt for the top of the line civic but since I don't have that kind of money I shall stick to my Probox.

I still think altis grande would be faster(not in all circumstances, just straight line with stock rims). HP and TORQUE are just peak figures they don't tell how a car'd perform throughout the rpm range. we need to compare power and torque curve graphs to estimate on road performance without doin' a practical run.

I still think it will smoke a civic - atleast initially.
I have felt the prosmatec civic to be slow below 80 km/hr - I guess it has something to do with its economical engine, it's not annoyingly slow but as compared to an altis Grande it is slow- I drove the Civic prosmatec after my test drive of the grande - maybe it's because I was able to downshift at low speeds to get that extra 'boost' which would have been impossible in an automatic civic .

Well, I'm not a technical guy - and i just felt that the grande had better acceleration - not in auto mode but in manual mode, this makes sense too, no? A manual 1800cc having an edge over an automatic 1800cc

Khair it doesn't really matter - its not a sports car and i'm sure no corolla grande owner or civic owner will be enrolling his beloved car in a endurance race against each other so it doesn't matter.

The grande is coming upto international standards, like the 9th gen civic. And with the upgrade of climate control, immobiliser and passenger airbags in a year or two (of course, with a higher price tag), both the pkdm family saloons will finally be at par with their international models in security and safety aspects.

This has never been possible before as PKDMs were always a notch below their international models.

So good job toyota, just upgrade the Corolla with immobiliser, climate control and passenger airbag. And With better looking alloys people actually won't know what to buy - civic or corolla.

Driving a grande with paddle shift is just like driving previous 1.8 altis cruise tronic in manual mode
Can u get that crazy wheel spin that u get in a manual Altis or civic or even swift from 0 to 40 ? NO !
If u drive ur Civic in 1 then 2 then D3 then D with perfect shifting u can smoke grande !
Corolla is heavier it's bigger and it is 3 hp lesser in output
And btw even if u floor ur civic in D at 45 km/hr speed it will downshift to 1st gear from 3rd or 4th automatically it's really responsive
I think you don't drive it on daily basis bro

You have done pretty good job.

I personally like to buy Civic anyday over Altis in this price range. When i have a same car in price of 17 lac why should i spend 7 lac more for the same shape?

Overall, Toyota has done pretty good this time. But IMC should change their strategy to boost Altis sale.
