Hmm interesting .. will follow your instructions and try to determine if there is any play in the shock/suspension. Upper insulators are same as upper shock mounts that can be viewed under the hood?
Waisay I did ask Toyota to check the suspension along with the brakes when I handed the car over to them yesterday to diagnose the TUK sound and they came back and said there was nothing wrong with the suspension. Having said that, they only did a visual inspection as per their own service advisor and from previous experience I don't trust Toyota at all in diagnosing problems. They may be great for replacing parts and more routine tasks but they are never able to properly diagnose a problem that isn't obvious or identify the actual cause for it. Also for opening up the suspension completely they were asking to keep the car overnight and labour charges of anywhere between Rs. 2500 - 4500 which would be payable regardless of whether or not a fault was found so I decided against it.
What you describe is something I can have a shot at myself. Will report back on findings. Waisay out of interest, do you know where in Karachi I can get myself one of those floor jacks with the long handles? In recent months I've found its invaluable to have one of those at home. I've also been looking everywhere for the service manual for this car but to no avail. With the sheer number of Corollas on the streets one would've thought that someone would have shared the service manual on PW by now but it seems that no one has it. If you know where to get it I'm willing to pay for a copy!
