Default 2014 Toyota Corolla Altis Grande

    Salam members,

Let me introduce you to my new car. After six months of waiting i booked this car at Toyota Capital Motors Islamabad on 18th July, 2014. Initially they gave me an approximate delivery date of second week of August but i got a call from them just 3 days before Eid that my car was here. My Salute to them !!

Of course it was not an easy decision as i had to choose between Honda Civic VTi Oriel MT (2,253,000 PKR) and this Toyota Corolla Altis Grande MT(2,149,000 PKR). As both car makers have a longstanding reputation for delivering reliable and fuel-effcient family sedans. But finally i opted for this particular variant as it offers the best value for money and for the following reasons:

1.8 Altis Grande comes with the standard features like: Bucket Leather Seats (Softex Material), 8" Android based LCD with Navigation and Rear View Camera and Reclining back seats. Moreover, this relatively new Engine 2 ZR-FE is more responsive and fuel efficient as it comes equipped with SFi (Sequential Fuel Injection) and ACIS (Acoustic Controlled Induction System).

Yar, don't worry about the small size of the air vents of this corolla. I have found this, that the AC unit performs quite well at any given time (Based on my experience of Grande and Xli while sitting in the rear seats). Particularly, in my car i have never used the 4th level of the fan even if 5 people were sitting and the outside temperature was around 38 C.

So, in short the AC unit is fast and efficient !!

I think there has to be a trick for android infotainment to detect it. Appreciate if someone can share the trick, if you have already tried a 3G dongle.

    You are welcome.

Yar, i have only used WiFi connectivity in my car, so far.

But my cousin is using this "PTCL EVO CharJi" device in his Grande, on daily basis. This CharJi device broadcasts a WiFi access point, you can simply connect your Info-Sys to this WiFi and then you are connected to the internet.

For the other 3G enabled usb sticks, you just have to install "PPP Widget" application from Playstore and then you can connect any 3G enabled usb to your Info-Sys.

    I hope it helps.

You are right, one needs to install PPP widget but in order for that to work, you need to root the device else it wont work. I havent tried to root my system in order to avoid the system to break down. The best option would be to get an evo cloud, wingle or 4g device ptcl is offering.

Yes, you are right. Moreover, In my opinion the services being provided by PTCL are much better (Speed/Download Volume/Number of Connected Devices), than those being provided by Cellular Networks.

No, i am afraid not. You will have to first root the Info-Sys, only then you access this external camera.

Yar, i have tried the other way around. Meaning, i made a WiFi Hotspot from my android smartphone and then connected the Info-Sys to it.

So based on that, i am sure you will be able to do what you are asking.

You mean its possible by plugging the simple evo into the usb port of infotainment system? If yes, please guide how. You can always make a hotspot through ur mobile phone or macbook or anyother laptop which can act as a wifi router. Connecting internet through a simple evo device ( not wingle or evo cloud) is an issue.

The one thing that unites all human beings, regardless of age, gender, religion, economic status, is that, deep down inside, we all believe that we are above-average drivers.

Ji janab, it is a manual transmission.

Yar, still at 11Km/L. The car has done 950Kms, so far. One of the reasons behind this poor average is the huge traffic mess i have to go through these days with the Air Conditioning on.

On average, i have to spend good 10-15 mins at one of the traffic signals on my way to office, everyday.
