Default Duboo Problem in 2002 Toyota Corolla 2002

    Dear Members AsSalam O Aliekum,
I am facing a problem with me Toyota corolla SE Saloon 2002 that, in morning when I cold start it the engine feel so much rough and produce more noise than compared to other temperature conditions like in noon. This roughness is more visible/ feel-able on low gears as and its intensity reduces on higher gears. I have consulted 3 mechanics but no use finally someone experience told me that it has problem in the head of engine and something called DABBOO/ DUBBOO needs to be repaired. This was later confirmed by a mechanic. I could not find the English equivalent of this Urdu word.
Does anyone know about it and where to get it repaired precisely in Karachi. And more importantly which part is called DUBBOO in engine?

    Waiting for your reply guys.

    Regards,

Vibration could be also because of some injector does not get current or bad coil causing one cylinder to misfire...
i faced the same problem in my car ....vibration was more evident on cold...and almost vanished when engine attained full temp... turned out to be a bad injector connection...which somehow got connected when grip terminals got heated because of engine heat...
i would definately start with things that would be less complex and cheap too do....

the daboo setting is actually called "tappet setting" - real term = lifter bucket

toyota ZZ engines use solid one piece lifters compared to old models which had a coin shaped shim.

The one and only correct way to adjust the tappet gaps is to replace the lifter buckets with the correct size items (toyota sell 11 different size solid one piece lifters) - Its quite expensive work depending on how many lifters require changing.

If you send it out to a mechanic who will grind the tip of the valve stem to adjust clearance - KISS your engine goodbye and perform a ijtimaee dua in a masjid for its well being. - The valve is a case hardened item with a very strong skin. If you grind away the skin the valve becomes vulnerable to damage and eventually mushrooms out.

Approximate costing of 1 lifter is about Rs 1200/- your engine has 16 of these (sola wall injun) - so if all require replacement then the bill can go to Rs 19,200/- just for the lifters.

    Mates one more question:
Who is the most reliable guy in KHI to get lifter buckets repaired?
and Which is more viable/recommended solution i.e to get the head removed and all the repairing done OR get them repaired without getting head removed from engine. (I heard someone in garden does that ? didnt get any name though)

every general mechanic has these tools - they are called spanners and socket (paana aur goti set)

the problem is that the actual dubboo is expensive - about Rs 1200/piece - thats where the owner starts to think how to get this repaired by shortcut - which means remove head and grind valve stems to adjust clearance.

In theory it should work - the problem is that you need to fully read to WHY it is prohibited - the valves are hardened items and will become weak if you grind them.

Shims were old school Toyota, the ZZ engines used one piece solid lifters of varying thicknesses - meaning in old models you swapped the shim for correction, in new ones you swap the entire lifter.

any idea if the same applies for the 1KR Vitz? Ive read on engine manuals that after a certain time the tappets would need adjustment on reading the detailed item i read that lifters would need replacement rather then adjustment. and pre sized lifters are also avalible.
Get over the fact that Xli lacks power windows, Its an Xli because it lacks thoose features or else it would be a Gli or an Altis if had all the goodies.

yes it also applies to 1KR - and the presized lifters are the 11 different variants of the solid lifters.
