Default Oil reduction problem in Altis 2007

Expert opinion needed about reduction of engine oil in corolla Altis 2007... I m using zic A for last 6 months earlier was using zic A+... Oil change interval is 3500 to 4000 kilometers... It consumes almost half liter oil in four thousand kilometers if driven on highways but doesn't consume much if driven within city...

Nothing to worry about. 0.5lit over 4000k for 7year old car is pretty fine and that too only on highway....keep using 10W40 oil. I personaly like Zic A, so wont even recommend changing the brand either...

Zic A 10W-40 or Shell Helix HX5 10W40 both are good for your car, zic is semi synthetic and shell is mineral. 0.5L after 4k km is normal.
I also have altis 2007 1.8 88k driven i use Mobil 5W30 and car reduces 0.5L after 5000-6000km and i drain the oil after 5k km.

After doing some research on your problem, I have come across a book: Automotive Engines: Diagnosis, Repair, Rebuilding By Tim Gilles. The link to the online version is: Automotive Engines: Diagnosis, Repair, Rebuilding - Tim Gilles - Google Books

Here it is said that all auto manufacturers have an acceptable level of oil consumption. In a General Motors TSB it has determined that one quart (0.946 Lit) is acceptable over 2000 miles (3200km) and this will be higer if the vehicle is driven aggressively at high RPM. So as @NiGhTShAdE says this consumption is normal at highway speeds.

the toyota 1ZZ is quite famous for slurping up about a litre every 5000 kms and is considered normal - it also faces a problem of gunked up oil control rings on the pistons which then cause the engine to use 1 litre of oil every 1000 kms. Always use a quality lube in the engine to keep it good and running and make absolutely sure that there are "zero" oil leaks on the engine. Any oil leak is a cause of air leak into the engine and the "PCV" function then does not work anymore and the oil proceeds to become toxic.

i used to 10W-40 liqui moly in my 2006 altis 55k driven no oil consumption issue, for you ill propose the same, liqui moly also has a special variant for high milage cars in 10W-40 semi synthetic which lubricates the seals and makes them elastic so oil wont be consumed, it should do the job as in your case oil is consumed only on highways, nowadays i use Mobil 1 5W-50 fully synthetic runs brilliant

With Regrets, i would say what a third class metalergy and design Toyota used....even before a lac km oil reduction....its unbelievable...i used to have 95 civic and when i sold that it was 272k km driven and even after 5k when i i used to change eng oil, there would have no reduction of oil bu even a drop...my friend's 95 civic has started reducing oil after 6 lac km ..and now its 721k km but with same engine...still not opened...

5w50 is considered to be an all year round engine oil! well iv been using it from the start and iv never faced any problem as such! yeh maybe a bit on fuel mileage if u compare it with 5w30! but still its mobil1 yo!
