Default My experience with Indus motors while purchasing new Corolla XLi 2014(Attitude Black)

    Hi,
I feel proud to introduce my brand new Toyota corolla Xli 2014 edition to pakwheelers. This is my maiden thread on pakwheels as I have an urge to share my experience of buying a new car with you all. It might benefit readers who are probably thinking about buying a new car (especially those who are looking for a car in 1300cc category).

Alhamdollilah, I booked toyota corolla at Toyota GT motors, Islamabad on 7th September. On 20th September, they will deliver my car, as it has already left Karachi on Monday. Will update more about the car in coming days.

Few points to remember before booking: you need to have a valid NTN if you wish to pay lesser WHT. FBR site shows a list of active taxpayers where one can look for his/her NTN.

Every dealer gives u a slightly different delivery date so choose wisely after visiting all of them near to your home.

In my case, people were asking me to pay extra money (1.5 lacs) and get the car in 1 day but I booked it and in less than 15 days, my car is being delivered.

I wish everyone a happy day!

    Ciao!

Congrats in advance. Btw City does have central locking if I'm not grossly wrong. You have made a wise choice. I'm a little Honda biased but in this case I thing it was the right thing to do.

City has central locking but no keyless entry in base model.

I am looking ahead for decent mods to my corolla. Thinking of installing key-less entry, power windows (all auto), rear lip spoiler, alloy rims (16" or 17" preferably imported) with yokohama db advan or michelin PS2 or PS3 (depends on availability) tyres. Oh I forgot to add window visors (a.k.a wind press). If my pocket permits then I might go for body kit option or will go for lowering coil springs to give it a balance look.

    Dear Swati,

You made a good point... I went for corolla for following reasons:

    1. New shape (will last for 5 to 6 years so no need to change car in near future )
    2. Excellent re-sale model/variant
    3. Can be upgraded to anything (one can install power pack, ABS, what not and what not... )
    4. This is pure luxury saloon, can't be compared with sabun dani (swift) or small compact (honda city).
    5. Honda city and Swift's suspension systems have loads of issues in terms of stiffness and durability especially when driven on rough roads like ours.
    6. Toyota on the other hand has been renowned for its soft suspension and durability.
    7. The colour (attitude black) will be a latest offering in Pakistan, this colour comes in only few variants of Toyota and Lexus (launched in 2012).
    8. This car has four wheel disc brake system as opposed to front disc brakes in Swift and City.
    9. The corolla Xli has better In-Dash audio system than other two cars, it offers AUX and USB front ports for connectivity.
    10. Last but not the least, Corolla sales are highest across the globe, and majority is authority..

In 2014 no power windows, no ABS, no central locking, no immobilizer, engine is similar to old 5 years model. Good decision. Let's wait few months for more DETAILED review.

    P. S. Good Luck ☺

This is also one of the main reasons I got XLI as I had a close friend who works in the dealership, got me car in 2 weeks time. I meant two days from today in my previous post... At present moment, the Car is on it's way to Islamabad from Karachi. It takes 4 days on average, dealer has told me to contact him on Friday afternoon. Keeping my fingers crossed!

According to dealer (friend) who works in Toyota GT, the Toyota company has made some mods in the engine (fine tuned) and now power is more (84kw = 100hp or so). He has driven this new car a couple of miles and he assured me that pick up is way better than old toyota.
Another reason behind that is new corolla is 100kg lighter than previous model, so power to weight ratio would be increased on this generation corolla.
However, I can only comment with more confidence once I drive this car. I know that Previous generation corolla was notoriously slow ... Been there done that. Sold my 2009 GLi and bought JDM lancer 1.5 CVT in same price. It was best decision of my life. :-)

One thing I would like to mention here that suzuki swift has 1326cc engine so WHT was 50,000 for tax payers and since my name wasn't on their list so they asked me to pay 100,000Rs for booking suzuki swift.
Honda city has 1300cc engine (as written on their invoice) so tax bracket was similar to toyota corolla XLI. But in long run, corolla gives u saving in terms of annual road tax (token) as compared with city.

    4. Pure luxury saloon with manual windows... yeah.. puure luxury

    5. I have a swift and corolla both. I prefer the corollas suspension but the factory fitted tires in corolla are crap so in the swift is quieter(tires arent noisy and the engine is quieter too)

    7. It is true that indus motor paint jobs are the best in pakistan but I dont think the black is even metallic like honda's.

    8. All wheel disk brake in Xli... lol.. its skids all the way so ultimately its useless compared to swifts brake which is quite nice and has abs too.

    9. Swift has a branded alpine cd player which supports aux and usb too.

    10. Does high sales mean it is the bsst car. There are lesser Bentleys on the road so do you mean to say Toyota is better than Bentley?

    ...
No offence, i own a 2012 gli myself and we plan to buy the new variant too inshAllah.

    Exactly zohaib bhai!
This car is 100-150 KG's heavier and the engine is same.

This car deserves atleast the new 1NR-FE or 1NZ-FE.
This old 2NZ-FE is ****. 82HP for such a heavy car? Even hatchbacks abroad have better engines.

    1) I do agree that It's best looking PKDM.
    2) Are you buying the carfor using It or selling It?
    3) When paying 1.7M you should get all the goodies, why spend additional 0.2M? City takes the lead in this regard.
    4) You call a car with "handle walay sheshay", no abs, no power mirrors a pure luxury saloon? Even Swift is better.
    5) Honda City and Swift offer much better drive, sporty drive, grip on good roads. Though Toyota is better on rough one's.
    6) I agree that Toyota has better repute of being durable and softness.
    7) Toyota's metallic colours shouldn't be called metallic, they don't have that feel in them, Honda is better in metallic.
    8) What's the use of 4 wheel disk when you don't the friggin ABS? Honda has much much better brakes.
    9) Swift has a "branded" alpine system which has both the things mentioned.
    10) As said by Omer. Roll's Royce has low sales, that means Toyota is better then It?

    Congratulations on buying a car.
Reading your comments, one can see that you are novice in automobiles.
You should have made this thread before booking, to get a proper info on different 1300 cc variants.

    - As per your knowledge this new Corolla weighs less than the previous model. You should have done some research before making a decision as this new Corolla has a 4 inch bigger wheel base than the previous model and it weighs 100+ kg more. This has been discussed in Corolla thread many times. A member @rizwan400 gave us the initial details, all of them were found to be true afterwards.

    - You think that the earlier 2NZ-FE was not tuned properly that is why it was generating 82 bhp and now this time IMC has tuned it properly and it has jumped to 100 bhp.

    - You consider Xli, pure luxury saloon (even my hands are trembling writing it) with manual door handles, substandard brakes, no central locking, and an underpowered engine.

    - As per your point of view, the worst point for City is "Lack of mats". The carpet mats used to come with City and if they are not coming now, you can get them for 1000 - 1500 Rs. (Not 17000 Rs just for mats)

    - You inspected a lot of Citys at Honda Classic but couldn't note that it DOES have central locking.

    - You consider "4 wheel disc brakes" of Xli better than ABS brakes of City.

    - You consider less annual token as "savings" which is merely a difference of 2000 Rs a year but don't consider the fuel economy of Honda City over Xli as saving.

You see, the whole post is not to discourage you, but to tell you that a little homework is always good before making such a decision.
If you really liked new Corolla, you should have gone for Gli which is just 125K expensive.
You would already reach that amount when you try to convert it to Gli, but with substandard parts.
Like you mentioned that you will install ABS in it afterwards.

I know that Gli also has the same engine but that is something you can live with, as it depends on your preference and requirements but such a car without ABS brakes is a big no. And a car with after-market ABS, hell no.
Never compromise on safety. Pakistan is the only country in which this new Corolla is offered without ABS.
