    Default 2014 Corolla 1.3 GLi AT - aliusman420

So Alhamdulillah finally our brand new Corolla 1.3 GLi AT arrived today. Kindly do say Masha Allah
We needed a family car and this new gorgeous Corolla recently launched which everyone fell in love with so we decided to go for it. As it would have been a general family use car we decided upon 1.3 GLi, initially we were planning to go for the manual one as had doubts about the automatic one, but after reading what our fellow @InNoCeNt_DeViL stated in his review of the test drive he took of GLi AT, our decision changed and we booked the automatic one. Due to the unstable security situation in Islamabad test drives are not being given.
Date of booking on PBO was 19th August and car was delivered to us on 1st October.
So far loving every bit of it, Alhamdulillah money well spent.
It has put the critics to rethink their statement of the car being under-powered, Masha Allah the throttle response is very good.
Currently the car is a Night Rider it is mainly being used in the second half of the day.
    So here go the reviews:
    1. Quick review from dealership to home Page 1 Post #3.

Alhamdulillah our Lancer has been with us since 28th of September, 2006. Yes I still remember the date it entered the family. It was bought brand new back then and has loyally served us so far Masha Allah.
So comparing the latest entry in the garage, the GLi AT, with Lancer is a bit confusing.
The driving feel and comfort from the 8 years old Lancer can be called at a tie with the new Corolla, previous Corollas never even came close to the comfort Lancer offered, that is why didn't buy any of them. The feel you get while driving the 8 years old Lancer, you get almost the same, or might be a bit less, in the brand new Corolla.
Suspension wise again both can be compared at par, still the Lancer's suspension feels a bit softer than Corolla, you can say 18-20 difference.
Cabin space is more obviously of the Corolla in comparison with the Lancer, but Lancer's interior ain't squeezed either.
Engines of both cars are 1300 cc, horsepower of Lancer as stated by its manual is 90 hp and the Corolla has 82 hp according to the people, didn't check it's manual so far. However, none of the cars feel under-powered at all. In fact, I tested my Lancer against several 1300 cc cars and to everyone's surprise, it was faster than many of them, other than the current Honda City.
If we compare the built quality, Lancer takes the lead. The car is properly assembled and professionally painted, unlike the Corolla which has rough paint on the door handles, and Lancer's body including the bumpers is stronger than the Corolla. However, Corolla's built quality isn't bad either but the rough paint on door handles really bugs me, IMC could've done a better job at it. Other than that, everything seems to be in order.
Fuel consumption at the moment cannot be compared because Corolla has a brand new sealed engine, it will take some time before its fuel average improves, not expecting wonders but anything above 10 km/l is reasonable enough.
The interior plastic that is used in Lancer is far more superior than that used in Corolla, it is quite evident even to the naked eye. The Lancer interior feels solid, while that of Corolla looks a bit more fragile in its comparison.
Road grip of Lancer is unmatched in its class, this new Corolla is trying to come close to it and it is faring better than the previous models.
One additional thing that the Lancer has is driving seat height adjuster, which the Corolla lacks and is quite a beneficial feature to be honest, because my height is 5'6" and I can easily see the bonnet of Lancer whereas in Corolla I have to struggle a bit.
If we compare the original speakers of both the cars, then again Lancer takes the lead, the stock speakers are Masha Allah still pumping good even after 8 years of abuse not use
One problem that Lancer had was of low ride height specially with passengers and luggage but I got rid of that when its tires got changed, I got a slightly higher profile tires, from 185/65/R14 to 185/70/R14 and because of such a minor change the speed-bump touching menace went away. Corolla has a good ride height and it's very hard that a Corolla on stock suspension ever touches a speed-bump, even if you put a buffalo in the trunk

So that was all that could come up in my mind regarding comparison in Lancer, any other queries in comparison of these two particular cars, feel free to ask

So anyone who is thinking about getting this new corolla should search for a 10/10 condition lancer 2006 model in fact even after getting it if you replace many parts with new ones still you would be able to save atleast 11 to 12 lacs easily so one must seriously think about lancer
    :O

Btw i used to have a 7th gen civic 2005 Vti Oriel prosmatec back in 2007 and 2008 and I compared it in every way I could before getting it with lancer , and Civic was a winner in all aspects
And this new corolla is really much better than 7th gen civic
    So ...

The current corolla and City never beat 8 year old Lancer. Even Lancer has good build quality than Civic.

While cleaning the car today i noticed a few swirls on the roof and trunk
    That's really frustrating
Most of the time I clean it myself , and even the chaukidar follows the strict guidelines I have told him
Still i can see swirls developing on the trunk and roof
What are your plans for preventing it from swirls , because u have a dark color too

Yes opinions can differ, and we shouldn't impose our opinion on anyone either. The thing is people looking for power went for Civic back then, by the time we decided for Lancer the 7th Gen was discontinued otherwise that was our first priority, and the only option back then was of a zero meter car, so went for Lancer.
The new Corolla is to go for hands down, however I felt I should post a comparison as both Lancer and Corolla are the same category cars and as I own both of them Alhamdulillah so had to ponder upon the pros and cons of both cars, and finally Toyota came out with a car which really tempts you to buy it, the looks are good and I found it much better than the previous models.

As I discussed in the detailing thread, swirls can't be avoided in our environment for daily driven cars. I am planning for a professional detailing job on the car which lasts for a year and the car sparkles all the time.

Lancer and Nissan Sunny were very good cars but didn't develop a market as it is already captured by the monopolists Honda and Toyota.

A 2001 Nissan Sunny bought brand new back then in our extended family got sold in 2013 for the sole reason that it had a very bad accident and had started giving frequent engine troubles. Otherwise that car served a good 375,000 km without any major work carried out, it was a 2.OD.

    Default 2014 Corolla 1.3 GLi AT - aliusman420

Had some full throttle driving in the car today, a guy in a classified Vigo champ was messing with me and had to show him he isn't really a champ
There was mild traffic on the Expressway, changed within the modes D, 3 and 2 several times to increase the throttle response while some frequent lane changing but safe the car didn't disappoint and the Vigo guy was only able to overtake while I was slowing down at the traffic light.
And then some say that GLi AT has no power. Although I do not approve of what I did but was also in a hurry to reach home due to some reasons I cannot disclose here, but the car looked and remained determined Alhamdulillah.

That's becoz it's 4 speed while the altis have 7 speed automatic transmission so Altis give fast respons in this case.

I thought 3 and 2 are used for braking when coming down hill ...normal gear shifts are controlled by throttle input ..

This is the second time you floored your new Gli

According to some of the brochures 0 to 100 timing is 17 seconds
However after driving it for more than a month I sometimes feel 17 secs is too much car feels responsive even with normal driving style goes to 60 just like 1.6 variant
Doesn't give any feeling of being underpowered

Next time whenever you plan to floor and check the acceleration
kindly go to a safe road with no traffic
put the car in D and make a video of 0 to 100 timing without Ac and kindly share it here

L is for first gear, 2 for first two and 3 for first 3 and on D gears shift normally. i seriously feel a considerable difference in the throttle response of this corolla and the previous one although the engines are same, and i'm not the only one.
