Default Toyota corolla 40000km maintenance query.

Hey everyone. I am about to be reaching the 40000km mileage on odo of my gli 2012. During my visit last week for alignment and balancing after new yokohama advan db tyres purchase, they gave me this estimate for next visit.
How many of you have really gone for it. And especially the labour charges.
Why dont I buy the parts from them like lube oil, fuel filter, gear oil n brake oil and get it changed myself. I got the throttle body and spark plugs changed at 35000km.
    Plz help.

Yes. Exactly. There is indeed a difference. And I would atleast never compromise on brakes.

    Depends on experience.
Toyota D.G.Khan quoted 4500 Rs. for fixing lock of trunk door of Passo that was not working with central locking. I was in a hurry and had to travel back to Lahore so I didn't get it fixed there. Next day my local electrician fixed it in 20 Rs. What opinion do u expect me to have now!!

Well. We arent discussing workmanship here. We are talking about genuine parts availability and the saftey concerned with it. Thats all. I myself get parts from 3s and work done from my well known reliable mechanic at defence chowk lahore.

That's what they wanted to do, replace it. But irony is that lock wasn't even faulty, center locking wire was out of place, electrician just made the connection and it was perfect. :p
Imagine if I wasn't in hurry, I would have ended up spending 4.5k for nothing.

Well not really... my driver side window was problematic and when showed them they told the mechanism will needed to be changed zxy expense so I told them to change it and when they opened the door panel to reach window internals they just ended up greasing and cleaning it and if I recall charged me 1k.

Personally I think one should be vigilant on his own. Last year I had to change gear oil of my xli. Each dealership that I called in Lahore quoted a different rate. Toyota Airport even quoted different rates for the same product when I called them in the morning and then again the same evening. When such a behaviour is shown by 3S it really makes me wonder if all of them even have the same product and whether they are at all genuine? Still its one's satisfaction that is important. I have always bought maintenance products for my Xli from Montgomery Road and then got them changed at my trustworthy workshop and more than satisfied Alhamdolillah.

Depends. You can always pick and chose. For instance when I broke my steering lock, they gave me an estimate of 16,5000 rupees. I got it replaced from Gawalmandi for 1,000 rupees.

Similarly when my car was rear ended 3S gave an estimate of 25,000 rupees for new bumper, paint and trunk lock (which was 100 percent ok and was pulled by a denter for 500 rupees), bumper was repaired for 500 rupees.

During the 134,000 kms, I never let any 3S fiddle with tuning. Just plugs check and cleaning. I only changed one belt, no pre-tensioner etc. Changed front brake pads, the rear one were in good nick till 134,000 when I sold the car.

I changed the fuel filter only once.

I changed oil and filter at 3S only when the car was under warranty. After warranty expiry I bought oil from metro and filters from 3S. Later I started purchasing filters from a reputable supplier who also supplies spares to 3S and those parts worked fine as car never gave a single trouble. Tried and tested.

So just do not throw yourself completely at the mercy of 3S. You can pick and chose what is vital and most sensitive, get it done from 3S, for rest of the jobs you can decide according to situation.

i believe steering Cross original/new one would cost 16,500 but since you mechanic change with non genuine/used so he took 1000

3s quoted you price for new bumper but you fixed old one different story

Lolz you never let them fiddle tuning its because your car was CNG and set at CNG and there is no harm if 3s touches the ecu or setting. The way you drive and your daily route constitutes a long travel not as daily city travel so yes brake pads survive and XLI GLI does not have Pre tensioner, ac belt needs to be changed at 80k

You changed fuel filter only once because your car was on CNG

and the conversation started from the point that your reputable supplier does not give upto the mark parts ...

Lastly those RENT wali corollas get no work done except for oil change and cheap filters they do never give trouble.

No. They do not have kharadia/machinist to take out the cross from the coupling and insert a new one. The original Toyo cross was for 650, 400 labour, 20 minutes job.

3s quoted you price for new bumper but you fixed old one different story

Still new bumper does not cost so much and they they were going to replace the trunk lid lock?

Lolz you never let them fiddle tuning its because your car was CNG and set at CNG and there is no harm if 3s touches the ecu or setting. I switched to CNG after 40,000 kms and three years and the long drives started six years after I moved out of Islamabad

You changed fuel filter only once because your car was on CNG

But petrol was used 20 times daily for start up

and the conversation started from the point that your reputable supplier does not give upto the mark parts ...

But I found the one which does give reliable parts and duly endorsed by senior and knowledgeable experienced Pakwheelers

Lastly those RENT wali corollas get no work done except for oil change and cheap filters they do never give trouble.

    Yes because Toyotas are reliable

Regular fluid and filter changes, plus replacing wear items, will keep a Corolla running for hundreds of thousands of miles, easily.
