    Default Doing 140 on my xli on motor way

    well...on this saturday evening i made a trip to my home in lahore on my xli.....the max speed i touched was 155 km/hr on motorway..however i did not take the risk to take photo at that speed... i touched 140km/hr frequenlty and asked my friend with me,to take pics ..........by the way i and my friend drove the car for 950 km in 24 hour time and not a single problem was faced... the car worked fine with an average of 12.5 km per litre with intermittent use of ac.....brakes were satisfactory and by the way this time there was no ""swaying"" ........and i have not changed my general tyres as of now...... but the car does give rough ride even on slightly damaged roads.

    here are the pics.

    asd123, good going! For the 2NZ-FE, 140 is no biggie, did it just before fuel cut on 3rd gear! Gets edgy after 160 tho! Anyway, what gear were you on? Judging by the RPM, probably 4th?

    140 is a speed which even now motorway police dont bother to look at. What are you trying to prove here. I think your limited exposure to high performance vehicles has led you think that drivng a XLi at 140 is living in Jet age. Sorry to burst your bubble but as a fellow member its my duty to let you know that you are way behind in this aspect. Lolz.

    @asd123, yeah, youre right! Engine noise of the 2NZ-FE is heavy, but it sounds and feel's powerful! I remember I did 140 on 3rd gear on my GLi about a year ago on Margalla, and the car was as steady as a rock, however switching into 4th the car was wobbly but hit the 160 mark, and then I braked, as in braked hard, and topped it off with engine braking! But overall, this car is gangsta and for a 1.3L engine, I give it 5/5 stars! Moving onto the Altis Inshallah, but the 2NZ-FE has served me well, no problems, good fuel consumption, and flies when you floor it and have beat plenty of 1.3L cars, and to those people who are going to bombard me with having a "biased" view, I have been beaten plenty of times too! But heck, we count our victories in life! DOHC RULES!

    140 km/hr is indeed serious speed even from US standards. In many states the speed limit on freeways is 70 miles/hr and people go 5 to 10 above that. Which means 128 km/hr.

    140 km/hr means 87 miles/hr which is serious speed for a small size car with no airbags like 1300 cc Corolla. If you are driving BMW 740i with a much larger and heavier body and 4200 cc V8, 16 inch rim tires, multiple airbags its a different story. At 87 miles/hr you feel as if you are going 60. You have much better control.

    So if the question is if your Corolla can drive that fast, sure it can.....even faster. But is it adviseable, not so.

    Also remember its not just you, your car or the road. Its also other cars and drivers arround you. How much experience they have regarding high speed driving. So, I would advise you not to try those kind of speeds in the future. As they say "Better late than never...."

    Also there is no excuse for not wearing your seat belt.

    Does XLi have opitron meter. Why the meter lights are white, aren't they supposed to be green. I haven't been in a Pakistani Corolla but here in China old models that didn't have opitron meters had green iluminations in instrument cluster. Anyhow I am no impressed by the speed but somehow yor friend has done a good job with the camera. He has quite a steady hand as the car vibrates a lot at 140.

    @asd123 I always enjoy your posts and whatever I said earlier on this thread was just a freindly teasing to move the thread. I understand 140 is a serious speed and one must be very careful at this speed. I hope no hard feelings. Drive safe and enjoy.

    @asd123
    My friend changed his XLi's General Tyres after one month of trying to get used to the slightly bumpy ride. After some research work, he installed DUNLOP LE MANS 702 (Japanese) with 195/60 R15 alongwith light alloys. He claims that the bumpy ride and noises have all vanished because the LE MANS is a more comfortable tyre as compard to other series of DUNLOP tyres. I am not an expert here on commenting on Corolla Xli as I never drove or owned one but with those tyres certainly felt better as a passenger.
