Default Rolla 05 3SGTE Swap Thoughts

Swapped 1NZFE on 2.0D Saloon last year, not satisfied with the performance, thinking of installing 3SGTE 2.0 with Auto Trans, is the idea insane ? Second option is installing ZRFR 1.8 Altis Engine. Shoot your thoughts/advices/recommendations.

    @usmanaliawan123

Question is valid, after all 1NZFE has decent power. Is engine was in good health at the time of swap? Anyway, everyone have different needs according to its taste and desire.

Don't go for turbo as it is difficult to maintain a turbo engine. 2ZRFE is a good option but go for JDM engine, not local used. Find engine in manual transmission, if you find with a CVT transmission you then have to change its wiring, ECU & intake manifold with that of auto/manual transmission.

Do you have pinout and wiring diagram of 2ZRFE?? And also you have to install a throttle sensor as this engine has "drive by wire" or you have to change the intake manifold (not sure about intake manifold) & throttle body with the previous generation engine which is a cable type. I am also not sure either the previous generation intake manifold fits with the newer generation or not, unlike 1NZFE in which these can be changed with the previous generation.

You should also consider 1ZZFE, it is a good option and go for manual.

1NZFE is not bad when it comes to performance, but engine is way too noisy when it is REVed to the full, 0 To 60 takes too much time. I use the Helix Ultra, Iridium Plugs, never compromise on anything, even recently had the throttle body serviced but the engine gives no good performance. Or maybe the reason is I've been driving my brother's Altis 07 Manual and it flies like a rocket.

I've heard Turbo engines can be used for daily drives if maintained correctly. And my car was originally 2.0D Saloon, the weight of the car is not made for 1NZFE, that is what the guy is Toyota Dealership told me, when he first opened the hood, he was like "Acha Vitz Ka Engine Laga Dia Hai" And he was right.

1nzfe have decent torque you should have gone for axio or premio version of 1nzfe (different gear ratio) sound pike CVT is the problem with you (you can't expect CVT to deliver sudden torque + CVT are always noisy) that why senior member of pakwheels always recommend to do good home work before swap

I think originally it had 2C engine? 73 hp. U changed it to a 109 hp engine 1NZFE.

2.0D saloon has ABS? if yes then put 3SGTE in it. If i were you, i would go for a 1.8L Altis engine. Economy is ok for a 1.8 L and power is good. Put some decent upgrades and mods to get 140+ hp.

I put 4AGE black top in 2001 corolla 2.0D, always had problem with drum/disc brakes combo.

Obviously there is a difference between 1.5 and 1.8, plus the transmission is manual. Which transmission are you using in 1NZFE.......manual, auto or CVT? And your current 1NZFE is from Axio, Premio or something other?

Compare weight between 2.0D Saloon and Gli, I think there will be not too much weight difference. My car was also 1.8 diesel and now 1NZFE is serving quite well. The only difference is that in diesel the maximum torque comes at an earlier rpm than in petrol, due to which some feels that car didn't have enough pick.

Well, if 1NZFE is not fulfilling your needs then try 1.8 in manual transmission.

So you are referring to go for Axio or Premio versions of 1NZFE instead of other versions?

He didn't mention his transmission yet, but if the transmission is CVT then you are absolutely right.

Enlist your options, then work on them in a way that which option suits you well in all directions.........complete your HOMEWORK first, otherwise you will be again unsatisfied with your swap like you are now.

Don't you think that 1ZZFE or 2ZRFE are better than 3SFE? Because 1ZZFE/2ZRFE are newer technology engines with more fuel efficiency than 3SFE. And having 200cc less displacement but almost same hp & torque.

I completely agree with you.........1.8L is the most suitable option for more power and some economy.

I also have the same auto transmission and in other car which have same kind of swap but with manual transmission there is a lot of difference........about 25-30% of pick difference between auto & manual. So If you just change your transmission from auto to manual, you will feel a lot of difference in pick & driving pleasure.

I am telling you from my personal experience that when I swapped corolla 88 with 1NZFE manual transmission, it has decent torque and power but when I swapped corolla 90 with 1NZFE auto transmission I started to blame myself that why I went for auto and soon I will change that auto transmission to manual.
