    Exclamation Swap story


    a toyota corolla sedan AE 101 [ Indus ] with a swapped 4AFE engine 5 speed started oil consumption 1 liter per 2000 kms. after compression test it was revealed that cylinder 4 is bad.

    keeping the time constraint and non-availability of required oem parts it was decided to swap the engine a visit to Shershah was planned. we took along our compression tester. After 4 hours of search process and several engine inspections one 4afe with manual transmission was selected. Scrappy told us that engines are without oil and the battery is not available for compression test ' ap guarantee par engine lai jao ham baythay hayn ' bhag nahi jatay 1 engine ki waja sai.



    did all possible physical inspection for wiring , sensors, plugs, tappets we negotiated for price and closed the deal. loaded up and delivered to the workshop.


    next morning we dropped the car with mechanic for engine swap.


    old engine pulled out , radiator was washed clean with citric acid solution, engine was washed clean, replaced the seals, spark plugs, timing belt, clutch plate, pressure plate, axle boots, all with brand new items.

    engine oil, oil filter was changed and engine moved to engine bay when compression test was done the engine had ZERO compression at cylinder 4.



    -
    engine is removed from the car, we now have 2 engines & 2 days being off across Pakistan

    Saturday morning we will be wrestling with the scrappy.

    Literally zero compression btw did you check if any valve is stuck on 4 cyl

    4afe? i thought 4afe only came in indus models, 5afe and 7afe were jdm

    That's why i hate scrappies... They don't deal like scrappies yet they call themselves scrappies. Its a crappy situation

    Sounds like bad luck as mostly people are happy with swaps.. Again everyone knows there is no guarantee what you might get..

    we carried our own compression tester and asked the yard owner to arrange battery. engine had its own 'GENYEN' oil but it served the purpose.

    the compression ratio between 170 ~ 190 is considered healthy for a used 4 cylinder engine.

    we got the engine but changed following items to genuine to be at peace of mind. Items changed to new are:

    1. timing belt
    2. main engine seal [ flywheel side ]
    3. crank seal [ front ]
    4. water pump
    5. distributor oil seal

    engine oil, engine oil filter, transmission oil, clutch & pressure plates, axle boots are also changed to new

    70,000 for engine+transmission, 15000 for all parts & approx 15000 for workshop manual labor. work done by Irshad 0300 2237538
    @babarhyd am sure you can get engine out there at better price

    car is back under regular usage, ALLAH has been kind, work completed in time as planned.

    2E OEM parts at very economical price are available in abundance for rebuild, we did swap because 4AFE OEM parts are not available

    I don't like 2e it is so sluggish plus poor economy on petrol and poor performance on cng .. more over the gasket keeps blowing off due to the water leaking from piping around the head .. I change one part and the next one leaks .. last time was from intake manifold .. mechanic was asking to change the head and carburetor ..

    in a ee90 2E engine with auto - 8 km/liter city run is fuel avg after 81000 kms on odometer
