    Exclamation Swap story

a toyota corolla sedan AE 101 [ Indus ] with a swapped 4AFE engine 5 speed started oil consumption 1 liter per 2000 kms. after compression test it was revealed that cylinder 4 is bad.

keeping the time constraint and non-availability of required oem parts it was decided to swap the engine a visit to Shershah was planned. we took along our compression tester. After 4 hours of search process and several engine inspections one 4afe with manual transmission was selected. Scrappy told us that engines are without oil and the battery is not available for compression test ' ap guarantee par engine lai jao ham baythay hayn ' bhag nahi jatay 1 engine ki waja sai.

did all possible physical inspection for wiring , sensors, plugs, tappets we negotiated for price and closed the deal. loaded up and delivered to the workshop.

next morning we dropped the car with mechanic for engine swap.

old engine pulled out , radiator was washed clean with citric acid solution, engine was washed clean, replaced the seals, spark plugs, timing belt, clutch plate, pressure plate, axle boots, all with brand new items.

engine oil, oil filter was changed and engine moved to engine bay when compression test was done the engine had ZERO compression at cylinder 4.

    -
engine is removed from the car, we now have 2 engines & 2 days being off across Pakistan

Saturday morning we will be wrestling with the scrappy.

Great work. Doing compression test is a good idea. But usually the big dealers refuse to cooperate and simply tell you to use our warranty. My 7afe when i swapped had slight oil burning but tht dealer did offer me replacement as the engine is super clean and quiet so I took money from him to buy genuine rings/gasket which he paid..

@babarhyd ' sir please check PCV valve and replace if necessary. If fuel consumption is fine and oil consumption is not so HIGH please perform compression test and share results may be valve seals at a cylinder are kaput and need replacement.

problem with nut-heads like us is the VIRUS of DIY. engine swap kartay hayn gari chalti rahay gi purana khud apni marzi k time par overhaul ho jai ga the old engine is now stored at home.

Sir problem here is that no one has compression tester even Toyota Dealership here dont have it. And mechanics are the worst of the lot u will find in Pakistan. Oil loss is 0.5 litres to 1 litre in 2000kms. Intact if driven at high rpms than oil consumption is high else nothing. I have check pcv valve by disconnecting the pipe and rpm shoots high. When connected it comes back to normal. Though i do see oil deposits around pcv valve sometimes...

@babarhyd PCV valve work one way only engine to manifold.

you may ask @syncview in Lahore to source and send you a compression tester for a DIY.

I can guarantee your money will be safe and syncview will send you an item of A quality if you are interested, I got mine from Lahore as well, failed to locate a store in Karachi
