Default Toyota 4efe Poor Fuel Consumption in Corolla ee90

I have 4efe engine in my corolla ee90. It gives me 9-10 km in city and around 12-13 km on Motorway/highway. Can I expect around 16-18 km/l on Highways from a 1300cc engine?

@hash4u Nothing is changed actually, this is a stock, standard size engine. Just replace the rings because it started consuming the engine oil and give smoke.

I have done Valve seals and some other work related to the valves by khiradiya, when I replaced the rings about 6 months ago. But I think distributer may need some service.

Thanks for your quick replies @saboor73 @hash4u . I have noticed that throttle sensor / choke is not working? Does it effect on car performance / economy?

You need to connect check engine light and see if its giving any error codes.

Post a pic of plugs condition.

Swapping is easy but wiring it properly needs some work. I am using 7AFE which is 1800cc and its giving me 13 KMPL local and on main gave me around 14+.
Fuel average also depends on your driving style and I use a very light foot.

@Vaqas1 The wiring is alteration based and the meter is not digital, thats why no error shows on the it. 2 errors were resolved when the ECU was manually checked by the electrician, one was of air fuel mixture sensor and other was oil temperature sensor.
I don't wanna go for swapping, this is a standard sized smooth engine.

May be My foot is slightly heavy on local but on motorway I drove the car last week in 5th gear with an average speed of 110km and it gives me just about 13.5 km/l.

@Vaqas1 I want my 4efe (1300cc) to give at least the same average of your lucky 7AFE (1800cc) on local specially. I hardly traveled 100km in 4 days in a week and consumed about 1000rs of petrol and the price is about 77rs per litre now a days.

check out codes engine is giving. auto choke not working is classic symptom of dead coolant temp sensor. have a 7AFE in EE90 in family and it easily gives 12-13 in local and 14 on motorways 120km/h

@ahmedraja1996 Thanks for your reply, but you really think this would be the only cause for poor economy?

@Vaqas1 @ahmedraja1996 Many thanks for helpful suggestions. I am going for ECU scanning tomorrow. Might come with some errors you highlight.
