I am using 5W40 since many years in my corolla 1.6 and now in corolla 1.8. I changed the oil after 10k kM by using original/expensive oil filter. These new engines as well oils (fully synthetic) are designed for 10 to 15k Kms oil change intervals. Those who are changing oil before 7.5k Kms and that too of fully synthetic oils are basically not only contributing in incresing polution but wasting their money as well. I drove 185k before selling my 1.6 corolla and still its engine was perfect

Fellows got first oil change done yesterday after 3500 KMs since it has been 6 months since the car has been procured.

Got original Filament oil filter (680 Rs), Toyota Taglon 5w-50 fully synthetic API SN oil for 5 litres (2650 + 670) and labour 262 Rs for oil and filter change from Toyota Capital I9 motors. They also cleaned the air and ac filter and filled battery water and inspected the car from underneath for any loose nuts, clips or bolts.

    Got warranty card signed too.

They also didn't discard my old oil and took it in a box to be poured in some old pugeot being worked upon in the workshop.

car is lighter and more responsive after the new oil. will share milage details after observation.

Pics are there on my thread

It's not like that. LM or Mobil can run 10-15k kms easily, but oil filter of Toyota can't take that mileage it is meant to do 8k kms at max in Pakistani enviornment

I also asked Haseeb sahib; can you please confirm that how much oil quality filled on oil change when oil filter was also changed? The manual says 4.2 lit!

At 1000km there is no oil change. It's just general inspection.
If you want to pour petron plus 10w30 mineral oil than you should change it at 2500km without changing filter and than change filter and oil at 5000km, but if you wanna go for taglon 5w50 fully synthetic than change the oil with filter at 5000kms so that your car engine will keep on running on the mineral oil that company has poured for 5k kms.

I am confused as; I did my first OIL + OIL FILTER at 1000kms. I bought two tins each 4 lit thus total 8 lit only for the reason that I will need to pour 4.2 later. BUT after putting in 4 later; I am still unable to see any deficiency i.e. the oil is almost at upper level. Somehow my observation is that oil is generally spread over much larger length. I want to avoid overfill and unable to detect shortage of 0.2 lit my any means!!! I think I should share pic of the dipstick. I check oil as per recommendation of manual i.e. warm engine and after 5 min!

    Please suggest what to do?

Stick to the same oil in tin, it's a very good oil and blended by idemitsu Japan. Stick to it for well over 50,000km unless your other tin ends, and after that you can think of shifting or sticking to the same oil. 4.2L Is the recommended oil capacity. Please follow that. Change oil at every 5k kms with oil filter. Even wiki motors recommended that

yes bro you are right 5W-50 mieans it is as thin as 5W-40 at colder temps (winter) and does not loose properties in summer at above 40 deg C where as 5W-40 is limited below 40 deg C

Bro, you are a bit wrong there.
5w30 won't suit the car in 40 degree of temperature. Xw40 or 50 are best for Paki enviornment. @makhdoom123 is using LM 5w40 as well.

Follow the specification given in the owners manual, and you will be happy. 50 is too thick. For new engine 30 should be best.

Basic theory is finer oil for new engines in view of fine clearances, and thicker oil for older engine as clearances increase.

No it's not. Manual clearly says to go for 30-50 viscosity ones. Also, 30 viscosity doesn't really suits our enviornment.
Used 10w30 for 15000kms in this engine.
The issue is Toyota says to run it for 5k kms. After three thousand kms it starts to consume more petrol on highways and engine become more noisy.
Going to change it today on 5w50 Taglon fully synthetic. Kept it on mineral coz didn't want run engine on synthetics for initial period.

Well I have a Civic 9th generation. Honda Classic (3S) always fill it with Honda fully synthetic oil 5W30. Civic and Corolla have similar engines. Why should the oil be so different ?

Toyota love to fill their engines with dose of 20W50.
