Are you referring Frame/Chases to the Assembly Block ?
Or did you just change the engine in your car?

if you are changing the engine block, you need to modify the regn book. The new engine number will be endorsed over the registration book by excise office.

you shall obtain receipt of engine [ block ] from the seller and verify it from your local cplc to ensure the number is clear.

with the engine receipt apply to local excise office with original file for engine number modification / endorsement.

NUMBER PUNCHING [ tampering ] is Illegal & vehicle may be confiscated at any spot checking

your mechanic is crook, punching engine number over another block is crime. ( period )

You only need to verify from CPLC for engine number if it can be used in another car. & I believe it can be done over phone call.
make your choice you want to be part of crime and destroy your peace of mind. or be at peace adopting Legal procedure as explained,
goto excise office of your town and ask process to change engine number over the regn papers to avoid trouble.

@capsat is right, tempering with engine no or chassis no is illegal. There is a certain fee at registration office for endorsement of new engine no. Plus u need the receipt of purchase of engine, may it be kabli. Ignore ur mechanic's advice

Don't Let Him Mess Up With Factory Punched NO On Any Block....You May End Up Messing Everything Which Cannot Be Reverted Resulting In Serious Loss

(If Engine No Is Removed By Any Means From Block...It Will Be Termed As Illegal/Tempered Resulting In Wasting Of Engine Block Along With Legal Issues And Car Bound If Found By LEA's)

The Only Way To Encounter Is To Change The Engine No On REGISTRATION Book ...No Need To Mess With Engine Block Or Any NO Embossed
