    Default Brakes Problem of Corolla GLi

    I m planning to buy Corolla GLi, but i m bit confused due to different news about corolla's brakes problems! I would highly appreciate if some one may advise me regarding brakes of Corolla? I heard that it slips if u apply breaks on a bit high speed... is it true?? thanx

    i think the thing u need to realize is that 90 % of gli's and rollas i've seen have the stock tyres on them which are the WORST of all kinds since i've seen the difference they have. My cuz has them on his manual altis and i have 205/55/15R kumho on mine and there is a HELLAVA lot difference between them. Even with abs the wheels make the car so frickin out of control on brakes, while on my car it's totally under control. So word of advice, don't blame the brakes blame the tyres, cuz if it's skidding and it doesn't have abs, it's most prolly the tyres.

    195/60/15 if you are changing rims also and getting alloys. With stock rims you can upgrade your tyres to 185/65/14.

    People also put 205 tyres but they are slightly out of car's body and would throw up mud all the times on doors and bumpers.
    Be polite on the road. Always give way to others, particularly ambulances and pedestrians.

    It is better if you also change the rims. 195/60 tyres with 15" rims would be a perfect combination for your car.And it also does not affect fuel economy that much

    today i went to hattar from rawalpindi along with my friends and seniors on new XLI of rent a car service, believe me its brakes are so poor and pathetic that it just seemed that some bicycle brakes like SOHRAB have been fitted by Toyota in it. On two occassions i was unable to stop the car on speed breakers near bestway factory and i simply banged on speed breakers. On returning back i came through motorway (bhatar to islamabad) and when i took the vehicle to 130 it just seemed that i was going to take off.
    I have got the worst experience of XLI which is a brand of TOYOTA???????????????????

    @gamemaster

    OK i admit that i drive a bit rash but i also have suzuki cultus
    and i have never faced such a problem with it. Even on 120 cultus drive is so smooth. As Xli has bigger engine and bigger body as compare to cultus i think it must have more powerfull brakes which must work efficiently regardless of the driving conditions and driver behaviour. On just 130 speed i was feeling that it has alredy lost the grip and if i accelerate it further it not remain in my control.

    What do think??

    i think yer right. the braking process in xli and other corolla models DO suck, but the tyres are more to blame than the brakes themselves. What tyres were on the rented corolla u drove ? i'm guessing the stock ones ? They suck ! and i have no idea why indus will still ship cars with those tyres !

    the rolla chassis seems unsettled with the tyres fitted in PK as well as the ride height offered in the local built cars.

    I think if a rolla is fitted with propper tyres and a bit of a drop (and ideally better dampers) the braking issue can be resolved,.... thankfully more models are coming with ABS now (which proves there was a problem)

    @shani248

    Brother that corolla was fitted with Yokohama tyres (sorry i dont remember the size but they were just like the stock General tyres but a bit wider). Also it was given more height from the rear because it was fitted with cng.

    @Storm

    brother you are right. But even with those Yokohama tyres i felt that on two occassion at speed between 90 to 100 km/hr that when i pressed the break pedal the car startered vibrating and i felt that things like breaks dont exist in this vehicle and i have placed me foot on the race pedal by mistake instead of break pedal.

    I also want to tell you that i had to give penalty to my seniors and friends who were along with me on the way for hitting the two speed breakers on the way because i totally failed to stop the car in emergency on speed breakers although i tried my level best and also on our way back from Khan pur dam i was not able to stop the car in front of the hotel for tea on the call of my friend and i stopped about 250 feet from hotel despite of pressing the full brakes, i took them tonight to Rahat bakers rawalpindi for pizza and ice cream milk shake from safilo???????????

    They just told me that i dont know how to drive whereas i have been driving for six years. I tried my level best to convince them of the corolla inherent break problems but there answer was simple that why so many people have bought and are buying these rollas if this type of problem exists and also none of the persons who were accompanying me knew how to drive.

    So at the end i had to pay for the penalty......

    it seems that you are driving the corolla first time.as you have mentiond that you have cultus and in cultus the position of brake acelerater and clutch is different from corolla.And it takes a some time to adjust when you shifted from cultus to corolla. And that is the reason you have faced so much problem.And you were driving corolla first time and even than you are driving at 130.its dangerous man.first you have to use to the car

    brother i placed my foot on brakes but it did not gave me any response and i just thought for a moment that i have placed my foot on accelator, so you have misunderstood me. Actually i have driven ALTIS last year but inside the city but i found its brakes working effectively and I was driving XLI on 130 on motorway not on the GT road. On GT road i never exceeded 100 km speed and my average speed was 80 to 90 km/hr because i was frightened that if accelerate further i may hit some one due to poor brakes. Also that car was no insured.

    You do know that brakes are not meant to be used at motorway speeds. Take your foot off the accelerator first and slow down a bit then use brakes lightly and downshift your gears.

    Since it was rented car its possible its not maintained properly as well.

    yaar rented cars are not well maintained as personal cars.and there must be problem with that perticular car.There is no such problem in corolla as general that you press the break padel and it does not work.All the complaints we heared about corolla is skiding after applying brake at speed near 100. And that proble is mainly due to bad tyres
