    Default Xli battery issue... Help????

    Brothers, here is the story..

2 days ago my xli didnt start in the morning - car was on CNG overnight so i changed it to petrol but it still didnt. Pushed the car in street and it got started on petrol... after riding for sometime, the engine check light went on - this happened for the first time in 3 years since i bought this car. The light kept on till I reached office. In the lunch hour, I started the car on CNG, it started okay and the engine light was off. However now the light in the in-dash digital clock has gone off. Clock works fine though. It remains so as of today. Battery is factory fitted.

Today the car started with taking more self than before... so i guess, battery could be weak. But what about the engine check light and the now permanently OFF digital clock light.

When the CEL comes on, the error code is always stored in the ECU. Take the car to the toyota dealership. They will retrieve the error code stored in the ECU, that should give you an idea of the problem. Otherwise it's difficult to say.
Never argue with an idiot, they drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

@Robin... yes i did it today to clean the terminals (some corrosion on +ive), and it reset the clock. As for the engine check light, i didnt mess with anything... just switched off the engine at office in the morning... and started at lunch hour and the light was gone.

Check for a short or lose cable connection, especially in your CNG set up.

Mine is on petrol and no such problem faced during 2.3 years. Stock battery is still as good as new.

The check engine light came only once very briefly when I did not crank the slef starter fully and mistakenly floored the throttle (old habit with a gassed Khyber).
Be polite on the road. Always give way to others, particularly ambulances and pedestrians.

check fuses/connectors, there might be some loose/damped connectors. usually weak LEDs take the brunt when u r too much into 'cranking'. get it replaced.

if everything else is ok, then u might ve to look into adv/emulators working. btw did u try bypassing them both.

may i ask, is urs properly tuned engine ? did u check the battery voltage, u may get some idea tho u'd not be able to draw adequate amount of acurrent while cranking ur engine up from a weak battery.

@Robin, yes... it is a fully tuned engine with regular checkup history for the last 3 years.

Since the engine check light is off now, do i need to check for bypassing adv/emulators?

For the clock light, i would check for any loose connections around!

issue solved... the clock bulb was fused, got it replaced... the engine check light was on due to mis-timing and got off once the car was running fine. Got battery checked and it has some life left...

    Thanks to all who helped.
