Default Overhauling My Corolla (My Mate Since'82)

    salamz brothers,

I own a corolla 1982 which I bought brand new in the same year. Now this car is with me for last 25 years and I have driven it about 2.50.000 km without any problems.(never touched engine except tune ups)..still runs very good. But after this much kms now it started burning oil so I decided to overhaul the engine AT HOME.as I have almost every possible tool at home for my rides.

I have taken the engine out and dismantled it and now going to reassamble...I can take pics and post STEP BY STEP procedure that how an engine is overhauled.....

(1)PLZ SUGGEST ME THAT WILL THIS THREAD BE OF SOME INFORMATIVE VALUE????

(2)SHOULD I START IT OR NOT????

    waiting for your suggestions brothers.....................

@gunshippilot.....lol.....brother,actually the aim is to provide some basic knowledge about the engine and how it is overhauled for my pakwheel brothers So if they come across these kind of situation like getting their engine overhauled(which is not very likely these days)in future, they can get it done in a better way...as all the engines are alike(more or less)from inside .....talking about the basics...

After getting the engine out of the car I thought that I should get it overhauled before putting it back in the car.but this thing came in my mind quite late that I should share the overhaul with my pakwheel brothers so I did not take pics of getting the engine out of the car and getting it dismantled.but covered it completely when assembling the engine.....
when you decide to get an engine overhauled you have to choose from some options which are there.......
either some savings are looking for or quality and durability is the basic object.....
as far as engine block is concerned there are again two options
(1)going for a sleeve(boring the cylenders to a bigger size and inserting hollow steel inserts in them again boring them to receive the standerd (as previously using)pistons and rings...
(2)boring the cylenders to a slightly bigger size just to make it round again and using a little bit bigger size pistons which are available.....
in first option the metal which is in contact with the piston rings is not as original and wears out quicker than the original...so engine life is not as per original....but fuel consumption will remain the same due to the same sizes piatons and rings...
in second option..the material of the bore remains the same original and if you put original/genuine piston and rings...life of the engine will be like it was new...but .. a little more fuel consumption due to oversized pistons....
but I went for second option as this engine was in a very good condition so only 0.50 oversized pistons were required for the new bore......
first of all introduction of my mechanic.....I trained him my self when he was a child and now taking care of all my rides(including spitfires) for about 15 years......obviously at home as I have a complete collection of tools for this purpose...so here he is.....he is a great fan of my RX7 and wanted his pic with his favourite car........

    spitfire:

if i were u i would had taken oppertunity to swap 4age16v in car and lsd diff. and drive some quality. You dont see good 82 's running ard here with 4age.

Mostly are owned by youngsters who waste engines in racing.

@levin...thankx brother for the advice....actually every nut and bolt is original in this car thats why I am keeping this car.othewise there is no sence in keeping such an old car.you are right that 4k engine is not a modern engine but believe me its a "work horse" and without any trouble.second point is that I have never tried or used any machine to its limits.Basically I am a slow driver even on highways..like dont go beyond 100 km/h or 120km/h on motorway so dont require the performance...thats why sticking to the old but original setup...any how thanks for your suggestion...

spitfire.. you have kept savana rx7 that's why i thought you may like some similar response from yr rolla82.

as for me, i still find 4age engines best for old rollas. easy fit,, no big hassles,, pretty durable,, sufficient power for relaxed driving etc

Spitty, i had a 1980 Toyota Corolla station wagon, drove it for 250,000 miles (not-Kilometers),it would not die, eventually it had an accident on the free way,its under carriage got damaged but i still kept it, eventually my wife forced me to sell it.
I just might have some pictures of it somewhere, if i find one ,i will post them .
    Sometimes i miss my car.......
