Default Overhauling My Corolla (My Mate Since'82)

    salamz brothers,

I own a corolla 1982 which I bought brand new in the same year. Now this car is with me for last 25 years and I have driven it about 2.50.000 km without any problems.(never touched engine except tune ups)..still runs very good. But after this much kms now it started burning oil so I decided to overhaul the engine AT HOME.as I have almost every possible tool at home for my rides.

I have taken the engine out and dismantled it and now going to reassamble...I can take pics and post STEP BY STEP procedure that how an engine is overhauled.....

(1)PLZ SUGGEST ME THAT WILL THIS THREAD BE OF SOME INFORMATIVE VALUE????

(2)SHOULD I START IT OR NOT????

    waiting for your suggestions brothers.....................

    salamz pakwheel brothers..
I am sorry but I want this part of the previous posts to "repost" here because it has some technical stuff and also to refresh the sequence of the overhaul...so hope will be excused.................
After getting the engine out of the car I thought that I should get it overhauled before putting it back in the car.but this thing came in my mind quite late that I should share the overhaul with my pakwheel brothers so I did not take pics of getting the engine out of the car and getting it dismantled.but covered it completely when assembling the engine.....
when you decide to get an engine overhauled you have to choose from some options which are there.......
either some savings are looking for or quality and durability is the basic object.....
as far as engine block is concerned there are again two options
(1)going for a sleeve(boring the cylenders to a bigger size and inserting hollow steel inserts in them again boring them to receive the standerd (as previously using)pistons and rings...
(2)boring the cylenders to a slightly bigger size just to make it round again and using a little bit bigger size pistons which are available.....
in first option the metal which is in contact with the piston rings is not as original and wears out quicker than the original...so engine life is not as per original....but fuel consumption will remain the same due to the same sizes piatons and rings...
in second option..the material of the bore remains the same original and if you put original/genuine piston and rings...life of the engine will be like it was new...but .. a little more fuel consumption due to oversized pistons....
but I went for second option as this engine was in a very good condition so only 0.50 oversized pistons were required for the new bore......
first of all introduction of my mechanic.....I trained him my self when he was a child and now taking care of all my rides(including spitfires) for about 15 years......obviously at home as I have a complete collection of tools for this purpose...so here he is.....he is a great fan of my RX7 and wanted his pic with his favourite car........

As you know that I decided to overbore the cylenders to 0.50 so that the cylenders material remain the same.In the other case there was an option to insert a sleeve and using the same standard sized pistons.Obviously the sleeve material will not be the same as original and so the life of the engine will not be as much as original.
So here is our block back from the machine shop after overbored to 0.50.

One thing I would like to tell you that when we opened /dismantelled the engine,I packed and labelled each and every bolt and small parts so they go exactly to the same place where they were fitted before.......something like this..see.

once you receive back your block from the machine shop after reboring ,it contains a lot of small metal particles all over and in the oil line so it has to be flushed/washed with high pressure water to clear all the oil gallery and block from the metal particles.but as blocks are made from cast iron so a thin layer of rust comes on it immidiately after washing. So high pressure air is used to clear all the oil gallery from water that may be present there after washing and then a thin layer of engine oil is applied on the block and small amout is poured into the oil gallery holes as well .It comes out something like this...

First thing fitted was the crankshaft.as you know that we are dealing here with 4k engine which is a simple 4 cylender engine. So it contains 5 main bearing(the points where shaft is fitted with the block)and 4 big end bearing(where connecting rods from the pistons are connected to the crankshaft). This particular crankshaft was in very good condition and after checking with micrometer showes very very little wear ,So machine shop man said that standard sized bearings can be used But I asked him to grind it to the next size and that is 0.25 down to be on the safer side.So it was ground to 0.25 size and 0.25 sized bearings (thicker)were used. The bearing used on crankshaft are not ball bearing but they are half round metal pieces coated (fron inside)with a special white metal....see.

cleanliness is very very important during reassembling the engine.Block as well as these bearing pieces are drilled with oil holes .It is very important to allign them when assembling the engine because when you start the engine and any any part of it is starved (oil nit reached) then result is ................very bad.....lol..
any how block was cleaned and bearing pieces were fitted on the block alligning the oil holes...see.
