    Default Overhauling My Corolla (My Mate Since'82)

    salamz brothers,

    I own a corolla 1982 which I bought brand new in the same year.Now this car is with me for last 25 years and I have driven it about 2.50.000 km without any problems.(never touched engine except tune ups)..still runs very good.But after this much kms now it started burning oil so I decided to overhaul the engine AT HOME.as I have almost every possible tool at home for my rides.

    I have taken the engine out and dismantled it and now going to reassamble...I can take pics and post STEP BY STEP procedure that how an engine is overhauled.....

    (1)PLZ SUGGEST ME THAT WILL THIS THREAD BE OF SOME INFORMATIVE VALUE????

    (2)SHOULD I START IT OR NOT????

    waiting for your suggestions brothers.....................

    @spitfire, Ya are quite a perfectionist type of a person. In khi mechanics overhaul 4k in less then 3-4 hours. But their engines last I guess quarter of what your engine will do...

    Thanks...

    @charterali...
    yes ,you are right dear that I am a perfectionist.But this habit creates a lot of problems too...like,the colour of Spitfire is still under consideration for last about two months..and many many more things.But one cant help inbuilt nature..
    After I decided to overhaul this engine,I spent a month or so in collecting genuine parts(which are hard to find now)like pistons and rings(at about three times price of "art pistons n rings").genuine valves,genuine timing gears+chain(gears were not needed at all but I could not help my nature and found original a very hard way),genuine timing chain tensioner(hard to find),genuine/original oil pump(only rotor kit was enough but again....)The only thing I could not find genuine was gasket set.....But again I managed to get genuine valve seals.......and so on...

    next item was pistons......
    old ones with piston pins and locks.They were in perfect shape and could be reused by using "cylender sleeve" os standard size..Piston rings grooves were in perfect shape...I was amazed to check them in this condition after 250000 KMs on the clock...

    Connecting Rods were given to Machine shop for the replacement of small end bush (the part which is attatched with the piston with piston pin..."gudeon pin")and obviously setting of big end pieces (the part which is attatched with the crank shaft).....
    another view of old pistons with all parts..notice that they are in pretty good condition.....I think reason is just single hand driven with very regular oil change using best oil available......and no abuse....

    And new pistons with rings in grooves....
    In genuine rings upper most is steel and lower were cast iron....But the one used in routine like "ART" or other replacements...there is "NO STEEL RING" all are cast iron...resulting early wear and less engine life..
