you see it only on PW? you new to cars bhai? i thought it was disgraced everywhere. still, it has market value and amazingly Xli enjoys good resale. i can still not get over this 2004 Xli sold for Rs. 800000 three years later.

Gli in my opinion is better but the resale of this needs to be found first.

    @pico,

Bro, don't take the highly biased crap posted on PW forums as ultimately legtimate. Its really funny how majority of people here give negatively biased comments on Corolla while the base line fact is that they drive suzukis everyday.

The only thing wrong with Corolla is its price. But then on the otherhand, same problem exists with Civic.

When you're free from the people here, settle down and think for a moment that why does everyone end up buying a Corolla? A person who can buy Altis Auto can also certainly buy 1.8 Civic, but he doesn't. This thing made Corolla the most sold car in the world topping VW Beetle, Internationally.

Yes, 90% of the people here would then say we wanted to be different so we prefer Civic, while the truth is both the cars are nothing more than point A-to-B commuters.

no matter how much research you do online,it cant substitute for the impression you make about the car after getting a first hand feel of it. Having said that we know about the paucity of vehicles available here for test drive and do understand that the impressions you make maybe based on word of mouth and on other peoples experiences. I strongly suggest that you first of all define for yourself what you want in your vehicle like safety features, resale, maintenance expenses, availability of parts.

List down the cars suitable for you and your budget, try to get a first hand feel for them and then ask about opinions of others and their experiences.

Tell me only one thing except resale which is good in rolla? lets talk about interior space e.g. legroom both rear and front i will prefer a cultus over it... corolla is damn sh**. And its too much over priced XLi should not be more than 750K.

Resale is a "massive" contributor to purchasing cars in Pakistan, unless youre filithy rich! The Rolla GLi has a very peppy engine, good handling, good resale, and overall a "sturdy" car! Drive it on any road, and the allignment wont mess up, even after 3 years!! But you lose out on the initial investment, 10 Lakh plus for a GLi is a rip off! Proton isnt in the same league, other option is a 1.6 Lancer, 1.3 City, or a Steermatic, each eloquent in its own way. The downside of the GLi are the brakes, although their negative effect can be somewhat abated by new tyyres/rims. The shape is the same, although the new one is expected somewhere in 2008! Base price, if you have 10 lakh to spend as an initial investment, Id say go for the GLi!! You wont be dissapointed.

waisay it's quite a shame proton didn't catch on...

it seems pakistani homies are SERIOUSLY BRAND CONSCIOUS! They would rather have their mehran and cultus break down on the road rather than get a good foreign built and manufactured car...

The major contribution behind the journey of corolla to rolla is of the toyota indus motors.

    yep mate:

    1. Durability
    2. Cheap Parts
    3. Soft Suspension setup (hence comfort on bumps and jumps)
    4. Accepts Abuse

Lets not even talk about cultus. It has sofa cushions instead of seats. Half of your back has no seat support behind it. Talking about rear leg room. Ah yes, if you sat behind a ricer who drives his car with seat full back, then what can i say about Corolla's rear legroom. Otherwise, in rear its more spacious than cultus.

Another thing, if Cultus was more spacious than a Corolla or Civic for that matter, then it wouldn't have been a hatchback. I agree that the Corolla's rear legroom and headroom is limited, but then, they can't make it bigger than a Camry. Moreover, i've sat in E39 BMW and C Class, both had crammed rear seats.

Talking about price, Corolla/Civic are more worth in their respective price than Cultus is. I think that settles it down.

I dont know why people are always cursing Toyota Corolla but again they end up on Corolla or Suzuki.

If one can pay 1.5 Million for Honda than why not go for some imported brand by adding some more bucks.

yaar....i must admit that in Pakistan i have just sat in an xli for 5 times, never driven it....as far as my obvservation is concerned, in karachi there was heck lot of traffic so the car seldom used to surpass 80 km/h, and the rolla brakes used to work fine at that speed.....and yes the rolla is comfortable car, at that time karachi roads were all messed-up, but the car was comfortable.

My cousin hadn`t installed cng, he used to keep it on petrol....i asked why so his reasons were that its fuel consumption is good, but i must be truthful and admit key petrol koi masla nahi thaa, hope u get it...wat he used to do was that fill whole tank and drive economically, like if weather used to be good so no AC.

One more thing i must admit is that rollas spare-parts and mantainence is easy and cheap. Like here in KSA, someone scratched the rear-bumper of my car in parking, so the repairing cost was 125 riyals but with discount like 80 riyals....but i can tell u for sure that if it was any other brand, honda or american brand, it would have cost a lot more. I think same applys to pakistani market also.

Here is KSA, i have a 2007 Rolla Xli, its engine is also VVT-i....which pakistani rolla isn`t.....and i have driven it so i know that it got a really awesome drive.

as far as resale is concerned, here in KSA, toyota is also the leader....and in pakistan again toyota is leader....so resale is one of the speciality of toyota.
