i have both and i can say in term of mileage and benefits the 2.0D is cheaper. First the diesel engine and transmission is rock solid if you have been changing oil religiously. Secondly no compromise on fuel range and trunk space

i think the guy is compary xli on CNG and 2D
xli would be like 2.5 rupees per km and 2D 3 rupees per km.
XLI on cng is cheaper. wonder why there is 0 own money on 2D corolla now
Life is short and very unpredictable just like a Quarter mile .....

In money terms cng is cheaper but you are sacrificing many advantages of a diesel.

Hash, if you happen to see the papers since the past few months, the diesel version was advertised every two weeks. it's dropped to once a month now because they maybe realized people will get to know it's not selling anymore.

amir bhai i would say the Xli is cheaper for the simple reason that according to hash's given figures, cng's consumption is less.

secondly, according to Toyota instructions, diesel engine oil and filters have to be replaced every 2500km which is half of that of petrol and nearly double the price cost wise.

in case you tend to purchase any, my suggestion would always be Xli because the extra money (over 1.5 lac i believe) invested in a 2D would never be returned. in fact if one does a bit calculation the return figure ain't close to it even. this is without taking maintainance into consideration and if you do take it, it would be 1.8 times more expensive.

second, the current shape 2D has extraordinary engine noise besides some vibrational ones. many have complained to toyota but toyota indus plainly refuses to do anything about it.

the above paragraph was leaked to my father by the previous Service Manager at Toyota Islamabad and later confirmed by the chairman of Toyota himself

well yes as spectra said, cheaper is xli on cng, but you have to let go of trunk space, deal with poor response, etc etc
its all about power to weight ratio...

Even the Diesel car cost bit higher on fuel running i.e approx.50paisa than cng, still diesel have many advantages than cng.
Absolutely NO power loss with AC on. also no power loss in initial pick up and easy on high speeds.
Save boot space and heavy weight of cng cylinder
Diesel fuel easily available on all roads of Pakistan without any hassle.
Cost of 5 liter's of good grade Motor oil e.g(Caltex Gold/Zic) Rs: 1000/-. and Cost of Oil filter (Guard) Rs:220/-
Cost of Original fuel filter is Rs:700/- changeable after 10,000km.
Cost of Original Air filter Rs:900/- Minimun milage for change 5000km.

So I suppose Corolla Diesel is much better than cng car in many circumstances

    xli: Rs. ~2/km
    2od: Rs. ~3/km

initial cost of 2od is higher than xli, and so does its maintenance but its a work horse with some roar.

i have gli , same as that of xli, so on cng it gives around , 2rs / km ........ in city, on highways, abt 200 km in 300rs in one fill, all with ac,

2.0D is around 2.8 rs per km ..........

but in my openion, 2.0d is better then cng gli or xli, i bought gli cos of lack of manythings in xli and 2.0d sallon is kinda out of range for me, but still in my openion deisel 2.0d is best option if considering xli to be converting on cng,

so many things if comparing xli (cng) with 2.0d,
    *trunk space,
    * less weight in 2.0d ..... cng cylinder=1 person extra on board.
    * tune ups of cng kit, or- install real Efi kits=80k for kit
    * less power
    * need refills after 2 days ... get into lines to get
    * less pick up ....... a lil uncertainity with car's reliability
    * in long distance drives, wastes lot of time in getting refill , distance increased by approx 1-2 hrs with cng refilling and resting headache.
    * etc etc

else i think if deisel 2.0D u buy new , zero meter, there wont be any prob as mention by "theboss" .... change oil periodically , there wont be any prob in it.

my vote is for 2.0D ...... also that would be nice if indus put some lil accessories which they call but i think they are basic need, like , power window, colour option, etc
    !

there's another reason of my being prefering 2.0D.

lets suppose u put a cng kit , a gud efi cng kit like that SIS kits. spend 80k for conversion, wat u get is Rs 2/Km best, ok fine, lets say 2.0D gives 3 rs / km , instead of 2.75 which is claim of toyota,
ok now there is diff of 1 rs per km ......... right ........ so now it means ,

if u drive ur 2.0D for 80,000 killometers =suppose (2000 km / month) Max i think=40 months=3.3 years ....... then ur xli will cover the price of cng kit that u spend on it after 3.3 years, after that time u get the benifits from cng .......... and during that time, u will spend time in rows , gets tune ups, spacers at back shocks, etc etc ..........

so simply deisel 2.0D is better option, all it needs some basic things like power windows, colour, etc and some wat price a lil less.
