    Default Problem with Altis Key

    Salaam.

I have a 05 Altis and after a year, the original key w/ remote broke. The cover broke off and so I, after great searches, purchased a new cover, but that too has broken again. Now I am running on the spare key, but I want to use the remote too. I talked to the Toyota dealer last year and they said the only solution is change all the locks, ignition & youll get 3 new keys for abt 20 000 rs + installation. Thats obviously not an option.

What do you guys think & what have members with the same problems do?

i think the dealer is making a fool out of you coz when you buy the car you get 3 keys with it and a lock code if any prob is there you give the lock code they come up with the new key (dont know about the cover and key less entry )
you can do is the get a key ring aftermarket one and put the chip in it

    Yeah--thanks anyways.

Oh hey my driver suggested a nice idea too.

He said go for an alarm system which will have a separate remote and the original key can be used as is. So I went over to a few stores and found something even more intriguing.

It was an alarm with 2 Toyota keys with built in transmitters & Panic feature.Actually I held the key in my palm and it was way better quality (plastic), and there would be 2. He also happened to be an old friend of my driver and offered a price, 3000rs + installation & a 5 yr warranty. I really liked this as there would now be 2 remotes.

I did some research and talked to my dad, he said that installing this "new" receiver/transmitter would greatly reduced the pre-built safety and security with regard to door locks as comparing with the standard system by Toyota. He says a "cheap" alarm system & remote would be easy to hack for thieves and the car would be easy to steal. True?

In this case, I would use the original equipment and not install the market alarm system and risk tampering with the electrics and the originality of the car.

@Human does Altis have an immobilizer with a chip in the key? If yes then you'll need the chip from your old keys somehow, DO NOT remove that immobilizer. Treat a normal 3k system just like keyless entry not a security system. A 2-way or GSM system can be considered safer.

Recently a few gangs got busted and try to secure your car by making it difficult to thieves to follow their procedure:

    - force open the doors, ignore any sirens. Liana has a dead bolt and freewheeling system to safeguard against this.
    - Open the hood / bonnet (a non standard motorized opener or chain with padlock under the hood will make the thief panic).
    - Dip the siren in water and disconnect the battery
    - Now find the cheap system and bypass its relay (installing the relay at a difficult to reach location will make the thief look elsewhere)
    - Reconnect battery
    - Drive to nearby hiding spot and find any tracking device in 30 minutes and throw it on the roof of any vehicle
    - Now you are free to sell spare parts or drive to another city with fake number plate, etc.

Thieves do not have time to think for a new solution so any thing different than usual is left in favor of an easier target, so you do not need perfect protection anyways, just a tiny bit complicated to look.

Im not sure if its equipped with an immobilizer. My plan was to replace the given cheap keys in this alarm kit with my own car keys and only use the remote. But for this remote to work, theyre gonna bypass the original receiver and subside it. My car also has a "chor switch", so i doubt theft is an issue bcuz after a few seconds the car not starting, ppl gather around and so theyll probably vacate the vehicle in any case !

@Human perfect then just get the cheapest system and use it as keyless entry. The rest of the system should work as is. No need to bypass any other system, rather they should piggyback the new system on the old one. If you need any help let me know, I can have a look and maybe able to give you a solution that works for you. Don't be afraid, I am qualified :p
