    Default New Corolla Launched!

    A friend called to ask me if I had booked my new Corolla, and that it had been launched and booking opened! Price: 13,50,000, for the Xli version! I checked out on this site, whether if any such topic had been posted and am surprised so far that there is mention at all. Did he bluff around with me? Plz confirm.

    Excuse me, but how is 1.35 million inclusive of tax a lot? What's foolish is that Pakistanis believe they should get a special discount. Why? Because apparently they find the fair market price to be too "expensive" for their blood.

    Compare a similarly spec'd Corolla with anywhere around the world and the price will be the same! In Australia the XLI equivalent sets you back 1.25 million. That's before tax!

    @anonpak:
    While i agree with some of your points, the fundamental fact in your argument is sort of........ wrong.

    13.5laks for a XLi spec Corolla (in the U.S. that would translate to the LE model *here's the link for features included*) is quite a horrific price.

    Okay i've been researching the Corolla all over the world till Africa.

    It seems a few variants Toyota Indus could introduce for the Pakistani Market could be:

    3ZZ-FE (1.6L VVT-i *both manual and auto*)
    1ZZ-FE (1.8L VVT-i *the current altis*)
    4ZZ-FE (1.4L VVT-i *i only found this in Egypt*)

    The diesels i could not find anywhere except Egypt where it had the 1AD-FTV and the "V" in that of course indicates it's a D-4D, so that's probably not coming to Pakistan. Indications from Navini Toyota (Bangladesh) indicated that the lowest model will probably be called the GLi Corolla. And sadly to the disappointment of power-junkies, the 2.4L VVT-i will not be in the Pakistani corolla; you can still import it for fun if you want Good luck to you and the fuel prices that will come in the future!!!

    Waisay someone should actually call up indus motors or better, just walk over to the showroom or something and ask up when the HELL indus motors is planning to release the new corolla and what are the variants. This is the 4th time i've seen someone say "meray mammay kay puttar kay bhanjay ki bhen kay dost ney corolla book karwayee hai aur 50lac ki pari hai"

    Bilal, if you're going to compare car prices atleast compare similar markets. Compare the prices in countries like Spain or Finland and then tell me if Indus is really ripping off Pakistanis. To compare an itsy bitsy Pakistani market to the the US market will amount to nothing more than erroneous comparisons.

    Even if I give you the benefit of doubt and look at the link you posted, the equivalent model, in your own words costs $17,150USD. Add freight and pdi of $1,150. Add 15% tax (Pakistan tax rate for comparison sake) which is $2,572.5. Add it all up now : $17,150 msrp + $1,150 freight and pdi + $2,572.5 tax=$20,872. How far away is THAT final price from the final price in Pakistan? So what if it's $2,000 cheaper to buy a Corolla in America than it is in Pakistan? Economies of scale make that price difference justifiable.

    Do the same calculation for any other country you'll see that we're not that our price is not that bad after all. Here are some base model prices across some countries... they might have a few extra safety features but look at the pre-tax prices for a second!

    Spain : $26,335.67 USD=1.65 million PKR
    Finland : $30 203,76 USD=1.8 million PKR
    Rumored base model price in Pakistan? 1.35 million PKR taxes inclusive.

    Now tell me who's being ripped off.

    @anonpak:
    I appreciate your research and while I am stumped on all your points, I pose this one:

    IT'S A COROLLA! Why pay an arm and a leg for a car that gets you into the baseline sedan qualification...?!?! By all means we are getting ripped off. But i give toyota indus this; they've made this market dance on their whim- they're the ones who get the greatest profit and recognition from the top 2% income bracket.

    Bilal, you're now running off into tangents. It's none of our business wheter it costs an arm and a leg for a baseline sedan. Is it Indus's responsibility to sell their car for cheaper because only 2% of the Pakistani population can afford it? HAH! You've got to be kidding me. Next thing we know you'll be saying Shahnawaz should lower their prices because only .000000001% of Pakistanis can afford their cars.

    The price is just right as it is and Pakistanis have it no worse off than anyone else. Infact, they have it better than most countries. No matter where it's sold it sells for whatever price it sells at because it's desired...and you know what? No other models has sold as many cars as the Corolla has. Are you implying there is something inherently wrong in the 15 million people that have bought Corollas?

    To say we're getting ripped off has become cliche, and to be frank, I expected more from you.

    i guess if the rumor turns into news than corolla might be upgrading its baseline XLI into GLI i.e. make it power pack, otherwise for a baseline XLI which is being offered at the moment prices are outrageous.

    i WOULD post the official response from toyota indus that i got, but i'd rather not. Let a few other people get a word in.

    @baqai:
    yeah the GLi thing- it seems probable. I can't see any mention of an "XLi" anywhere.

    @ anonpak

    Have you considered the quality of corrola that we get here in Pakistan?

    Indus does not even bother to put breaks in xli . have u seen the tires, the features, the build quality, the safety features in indus corrola?

    Bring the same quality and features as in the US and people would happily pay more. Why do we see JDM corrola here? even though they are second hand and more expensive than local ones.

    Its unfair to charge that much price for a car that is one of the worst in quality/features in its class.
