    Default Altis V 1.8L DOHC VTEC

    A friend and I finally decided to take our cars head on(Not a real race exactly); his Altis against my EX 1.8. Well, in acceleration we both were the same(1st and 2nd gear), till VTEC really kicked in and I took the lead by a pretty decent margin. Anyhow, we didnt go more than 140KPH(I know, no biggie), but I screwed him bad till there anyway. Kinda strange..the Altis is powered a 1.8L DOHC VVt-i engine and my Civic by a 1.8L DOHC VTEC engine, shouldnt both cars performance be pretty much the same? DOHC RULES!

    Fli Gti I was reading your posts on the Myth buster thread and I figured you know a lot about fuel pressure, manifolds, and other very technical stuff. However I am surprised because you couldn’t answer your own very simply question. I don’t live in Pakistan so I don’t know what an Altis is but simply put two vehicles with the same engine will not perform uniformly. Other factors that come into play are the sizes, weight, even naturally aspirated cars vary from one stock intake to the other. So just because a corvette has a 5.7 V-8 you can’t race your run of the mill Impala SS against it. I hope I answered your question.

    As I told in some other topic, I'm planning to send 2.4 VTEC for my Civic LXi, I hope it would kick *** of some turbos if I do some modifications.

    I'm even thinking of buying a 3.0 ltr I-6 turbo (Toyota Supra engine) for my cousin's indeginously made Lotus Super 7. Now its a meager 1.3 ltr I-4 (toyota) but for such a light wieght thing, its a perfomer. I also contacted one fibreglass manufacturer to change metal to fibre so it shall become more lighter... I think it'll become more fun thing with a li'l danger quotient.. its helluva drifter already...! Imagine what will happen with 3.0 ltr turbo!!!!

    @GLi

    generally the 1.8L DOHC VTEC engine of Honda/Acura have much higher outputs (around 170hp) as compared to that of Toyota Altis (134hp).

    This is the most probable reason for a better acceleration of your civic compared to Altis.
    Hope that clears up the mystery.

    Thanks for the info Mazher! Yep, its a B18C1 ripped off a 91 Integra. Toyota just cant match Honda's VTEC Technology! 170BHp is more than enough under the hood. Thiking of upgrading to a 2.4L DOHC VTEC, costing around Rs200,000 from Quetta! DOHC RULES!

    hello!
    Power to weight ratio matters alot....also the compression rattios matter.....you get 1.8 DOHC Vtec in which chassis Gli....thats the reason why Starlet kick civic a--- really bad even a normal not highly moded 2E powered EP70 kicks out civic with 2 cars margin.....
