Default New Pics of Locally Assembled New Corolla 08

MOD EDIT: MOVED TO CORRECT SECTION

Well people I went to Toyota Indus Motors for some official work there. Surprisingly i spotted new corolla at various points of the factory. It was there at the assembly bay, checked out an altis auto at the quality inspection area and interestingly a new Xli at the Cng tuning station.

Taking pics was not allowed but after asking a senior official there, was allowed to take some but not openly. Could'nt take the interior pics... though checked out an altis from inside..it has again an indash music system other wise same as can be seen on the net and yes no steering controls!!!

According to the people there the current altis has not performed well at all and it was planned to introduce this new shape only in Altis to counter the New 1.8 Civic but Indus'es star product is a XLI. So now the decision has been reverted and it will come in all varients..

It will be launched in Aug or Sep this year...

Here are some of the pics though not very good in quality and angles because of the so called secrecy thing (although the pics are all over the internet already). But I thought I should share them with my Pakwheels friends.

    Regards
    At the assembly bay

...i knew that comment might end up landing me in trouble.

Here's the way i look at it- in pakistan the phrase "Anything that can go wrong, will go wrong" happens all too often, and you never expect anything to go off without a hitch. Ah who am i to know... i can barely afford to pay for gas, i'd be happy to see good km/l figures in pakistani cars.

    @levin:
True, but quality control hasn't exactly been a strong point and people are, quite sadly, fine with buying a P.O.S. XLi.

My request to those who are calling Corolla customers names. Have a life and look around. You are in a protected market regime with a highly corrupt government machinery. The choices of new cars are thus limited and one has to choose lesser evils.

There is no regulatory authority to emphasise on vehicle safety, if there are some statuatory bodies, they are non-functional.

Imported cars may be good, but they are used and they cannot be repaired in Dina, Tala Gang, Gujar Khan.

Sunny, Lancer Optra and and Aveo are alternates, but they may not be appealing to many people here coz they can only be maintained effectively in the four provincial capitals and Islamabad ss they don't have their service centres in smaller cities and towns across Pakistan.

There are consumer courts set up by the governmente recently. If you know a clever lawyer, he can get you compensation against a faulty product. BTW how many of us know about it?

But thinking of court, lawyers rings alarm bells, it needs a lot of money and time to pursue cases in the courts and the big companies have full-time legal sections to do that for them so it is not a worry for them, but can you miss picking up your kids from school for going to court?

In Pakistan the law is heavily tilted in the favour of tiny moneyd class which can afford to import classy cars from abroad anyway. Spares is no problem for them, they are a phone call away and actually they don't have to bother about these things as there are plenty of help to do this for them.

What about the middle class and salaried people, they don't have such an amount of money and time to look for spares around and they pay funny charges. The Pakistani assembled Corolla may be a piece of ****, but it moves the things around here and one don't have to worry about maintenance issues or spares.

It really goes well on Pakistani roads which are not like Islamabad or the ones in DHAs in other cities. In any Pakistani city if you leave the upscale areas, the roads are in pathetic condition and these "pieces of shits" go everywhere with full trunks, CNG tank and six people inside to any ally without hugging its belly.

I'my not a Corolla fanatic, but like hundreds and thousands people it just fits into my budget and not heavy on my pocket when it comes to running and maitenance and it is a bit presentable too, may not be as fashionable and trendy as rivals.

I have seen people crying over breaks of Corolla and skidding. Though it is true that there are breaking issues and skidding, but it is only when one is a bit overspeeding.

It's three and half year with XLI and I have never gone sliding into the back of any car infront of me, ironically I was hit by a new City from the rear which came skidding like a projectile. And how many Corollas you see daily doing that?

There is no use of urging people not to buy a local assembled car. What really can be helpful to organise them to press for an effective vehcile safety regulatory authority, but who has the time for it?

Buy what you like, but don't belittle others forced to buy from a limited protected market.

@autophile.......... sir the reply to the the rest would take some time, but for the moment....... most of us really don't agree with the brakes having an issue "only when one is a bit overspeeding".... I see rolas everyday starting from standstill gently and skidding when brakes are applied which happens too often at our traffic signals.......... the rolla brakes are faulty to the level which can be labelled "does not work" ........

@bilal. if the law of probability is applied then 70 percent of rolla stock would be off road and into workshops by now, assuming if you see daily average four rolla accidents and multiply it with 50,000 units since ctober 2002.

@bilalahm is quite correct- almost ALL corollas (2001-2008) I see on the road screech and skid somewhat or another even at minimal speeds. Partly cause of the tires and partly cause of the impractical braking mechanism (XLi.GLi.2.0D.2.0D SE). The Saloon & Altis have ABS + BA so theyre kind of okay.

    @autophile
Sir, I agree Corollas are capable of going everywhere along with remarkably well performance on screwed roads and an exceptionally low maintenance and running cost. Perhaps thats why people purchase entry level Corollas?

EXCELLENT spotting... the new corolla is here and probably will do better than the current version (if xli is still there)

to those who are commenting on the brakes of corolla.. i would say that there is some issue no doubt but u got to come across too many cases because of the probabilitly factor.. DO U KNOW??

    there are:
45,743 Honda Civics sold since 2002
1,46,702 Toyota Corolla sold since 2002
(Xli alone sells more than the total number of 'all the variants 'of city & civic)
so if anyone has studied the probability factor in his matriculations might understand why we come across so many cases about xli
if tc=p then hc=m where tc is equal to toyota corolla and p is equal to paindu, and hc is equal to honda civic and m is equal to moron

if this is true then you've got the news-scoop of the year here. after so many bogus reports i'll wait to see these on the road before confirming the arrival. actually there's 2 australian-imported corollas in this shape on the road in lahore but those are just a teaser for the public.
BTW, I wonder how much bigger the new shape is (inside and out), does anyone here know about that?

    autophile

thank you for an intelligent and well-thought out response about the current market situation. we are a captive market and have to either break out of it ourselves (support endeavours like AMC or buy vitz imports) or grind our teeth and buy the locally assembled cars.

    regards
    vadvaro

p.s. the news about dealer-fitted cng is going to open some eyes; so far the local assemblers have not shown a lot of love for cng conversions (the liana is a notable exception).
