    Default Corolla 2005 misfire problem

I have 2005 Corolla. I am facing misfire problem with the car on CNG. I have noticed that it misfire when the engine is hot i.e. Starting the car again after running 15-18 kilometers, I have changed the plugs a week ago but the problem still exists. The strange thing is that there is no problem with the performance. In past when the car misfire it blows up the air filter box and it also affect the performance. When I changed the plugs my car’s mechanic put a couple of screws in air filter box and now it do not blow up the air filter box on misfire. I hope putting the screw will not cause any internal damage.

Please suggest what is causing misfire, where it can get this fixed (permanently) and any ideas how much the fix will cost?

    Thanks

    Hello sir

    now listen carefully

the same thing happened to my car first you need to get the tappets and valve clearances checked and adjusted

then you need four new coil packs (the black thing that screws over the spark plug)

since it is a DIS (distributor-less ignition system)

the coil packs are to blame

Thanks for the replies. I will try and see if these fixes workout for me

The only thing I changed are the plugs.

    Hey saadzae92

What should I ask from the coil packs? I mean is there a specific brand or something or should I just ask form corolla coil pack?

More suggestions or fixes are welcome.

    Thanks

just get original coil packs they should just be fine

these coil packs get short circuited when exposed to water for example lets say you pressure washed the engine or something like that

get it fixed quickly or else you could blow your plastic intake manifold to bits and it is a costly fix

you can pretty much say goodbye to this part

and costs 20,000 PKR for this plastic lame excuse

What saadzae saying is VERY right. That POS plastic manifold costs like 18000 from toyota and they also charge a hell of money in the name of 'Labour'. And if you buy one from montegomery road, that costs around 7000.. one bad misfire and it's in the grave. So fix this thing asap.

Oh and check that which coil has gone bad, you don't need to buy all four of them.

Yes get it checked also that which coil pack is a goner

but chances are 2 out of the 4 are fried most of the times

so better get all replaced as they are sold as a set of 4 from the Toyota company

but you can get them very cheaply in used japanese parts dealers e.g shoba, bilal gunj and shershah in pakistan

    @ MoizKhan

syncview thought that you were located in lahore so he suggested a famous car parts market in LHE

you need to find these parts in KHI (shershah) maybe

also he was quoting that you can get the intake manifold for 7000 not the coil packs
so get their exact price confirmed

also get the tappet/valve clearance checked and adjusted

    thank you

oho so finally Baleno is not the only car mis firing... Baleno has double ended to coils nd 2 plugs wires which cost like RS.2200 for wires and RS.14000 for set of Genuine Coils. PakSuzuki gives em for 19000. So jst guess how mch wud Toyota cost.

kheir cuming back to the topic, Plug gapping mite help u, get them checked, once my cars ( balneos) mis firing was solved by lessening the gaps (altho the mechanic did it)

Btw is ur car missing on Petrol also???, if yes then for sure ur coils are the culprit.

@Saaad, Tapets are adjsted jst gari bund horai ho, Misfirring shud not be related to Tapets

    Sir

misfiring is related to tappets, your valves are opening and not closing properly , i.e they are loose

we all know the concept of the 4-stroke internal combustion engine

    1.suck
    2.squeeze
    3.bang
    4.blow

know we will look at when valves are open for the intake cycle i.e taking in the air fuel mixture , if the tappet adjustment is not spot on , the valve opens late and can be delayed till the bang (when the spark plug fires)

now imagine your engine going at 4,000 rpm it happens pretty fast

    so lets have an equation

Open Valve+faulty tappet clearance +short circuited coil pack+an intake manifold full of highly combustible gas e.g
CNG and we as a result have=a blown intake manifold+an expensive and tedious fix

so prevention is the best cure

    thank you

^ u may b rite nd i might be wrong
mjhe to jo patta tha i shared it wid u, as awl Balenos misfiring are related to Coils issues nd wen my car did that we first switched coils nd the wires to check if the problem was coils or not, so the coils were the culprit,

nd BTW misfiring was on initial RPMs then the car runs smoth I.e on higher speeds nd RPMS,

about tappets i didnt noe mch so i started a topic, i wud apreciate if u wud comnt on it

Does it effect the car if it is driven on a partially burnt out air filter. There r no holes but it is slightly burnt.
