Default Cultus low top speed and low pick problem

I have Cultus 2006 (non EFI) and it did around 150,000 km approx.

The problems I am facing are:

    1. Low pick (acceleration). Engine sounds ok. But I feel that the car is moving like a dead man.
    2. Low top speed. On motorway (Isb-Lhr), it hardly crosses 100km/h at CNG. And max 120km/h on patrol on the straight road. And on slightly high road, dont ask.... its like 60km/h.
    3. Last week I went to hilly area (peer suhawa), the drive was really pain in the a$$. It gave me very tough time during the heights.

I did 140 km/hr on CNG and 160 km/hr on Patrol before on motorway and drove to murree, azad kashmir and pir suhawa without any kind of problem !!!! but now it really sucks!!!!

I just visited Suzuki 3S workshop and told them the 3 issues above. One of their technicians did a test drive. He also observed that the engine was vibrating when it started on patrol at just 1200 RPM. Anyways he told me that there is a problem with valve pressure. The valves are leaking and the pressure is not building up, that's why it is not giving max performance on pickup and top speed. Their supervisor also came and observed. They gave me an estimate of Rs. 29,000. Below is the list of things that need to be changed (if required), as it is an estimate only.

    • valve set
    • valve guid set
    • valve seal set
    • thermal state valve (std)
    • head gaskit
    • silicon tube
    • radiator service
    • timing belt + bearing

The car had an accident from front around 6 months ago, so I assume that these might be the side effects of that accident + 150,000 kms driven.

Did any one of you experience similar issues with Cultus?

I also talked to the guys about overhauling, but they say it is not necessary at this time. And if I change the things listed above, the car would be fine.

They gave an oral estimate of Rs. 1,20,000 for an overhaul, if I opt to get all genuine parts and around 55,000 if non-genuine.

Damn.. Well thats a expensive fix they are offering. Same work i can get you done in around 12000 Rs with genuine parts. and complete overhaul in 25 to 28k max.

If ur going to get the above work done also ask them to replace the pistons rings as well.

Ahan... from which workshop? I have plan to visit tomorrow some other workshops/mechanics for the car checkup and want to hear their suggestions and estimate charges.

And the price which they gave me is 7,100 for valve set and 4,390 for timing belt + bearing. It makes Rs. 11,490 for only these 2.... I got this price from Suzuki 3S shop, which is also listed on paksuzuki website. They charge around Rs. 100 to 300 more than the market, but not that much. Seriously, I have doubt about your calculations.

Bro did u get its tappet adjustment rescently???get ur tapets loose a bit and see if this problem still remains cz when u tighten the tappets engine ki pick wgaira mar jati hai!if tappets dont add to ur pick up stuff then think about overhauling the motor but from some other mechanic cz this suzuki 3s is very expensive.

Went to another Suzuki 3s shop, Federal Motors, Islamabad. I actually purchased my car from this showroom. He said tappet and butterfly needs to be fixed. Timing belt was also long overdue. Clutch and pressure plates gotten weak, they also need to be replaced.

In short, they estimated around Rs. 26k for above repairs/parts/labor. They said engine is fine. Only the above things need fixing.

Today, I will visit desi mechanics and ask about their views. Cz Suzuki 3s is charging Rs. 2000 for tappet and another 2000 for butterfly repair.

just had the teppit and butterfly work done and also timing belt changed. Car runs very smooth now, not like an old man with the stick

But, still the valves need to be changed, thanks to the CNG + carby engine

Will also replace the clutch/pressure plates too, the mechanic say they will last only another 10,000 km only.

Thanks alot for your advices, I did not ripped off by Suzuki 3s, so called authorized workshops, which asked for 3x times than the desi mechanics. They are the best, if they know what needs to be done and they know what they are doing.

U did your job from samendar khan autos and I am consulting Neelam Jan autos

You need Clutch, pressure, timming belt, baring, butterfly from SULTAN KHO and thats it. I would advise you to get these things done first if problem still there then go for engine. But I am sure it will be done with these changes. Best cultus machenic I know in Islamabad is WAQAS AUTO WORKSHOP in I-10/3 give him call 03225003838.

Hmm i will again say its better to put new rings as well.

    Why?

Ur replacing valves means the pressure inside the cylinder will be back to normal means it will put more load on the rings and pistons.

Now if the piston rings are weak the pressure will start leaking from them and soon they will give way to oil to get pass and burn.

Agay thuwada marzi thats my theory :p

spent whole day at the workshop. I am still there and replying via cell/gprs. Valves set changed now, clutch, pressure plates too and they serviced the things inside bonut, cleaned with matti ka tail.

The old valves were in really bad shape. Two of them even had small cracks in them. Clutch plates were also worn out. The guys are putting things back. I hope the car comes back close to its original condition today. Will post the result later today.

    @farooq
Better go to some suzuki 3s shops and check what they say. Later on, get the things done by some desi mechanic. And use genuine parts.

Back from the workshop. Ride is much better and I can finally feel some power in it. The valves seemed to be the biggest culprit. I dont know why they were yellowish and had some cracks. I guess the 150,000km mileage and mostly on CNG had badly effected these. The new ones were of silver color.

I spent around Rs. 26k in total. As I asked my mechanic to tell me any weak or worn out thing he finds. My wheel bearings were also worn out and they were changed. It really depends on the condition of your car.

    - But, first get the teppit and butterfly done. And also change the timing belt, if you did not change it at 80,000 mileage.
    - Drive the car for 1-2 days. If you do not feel any difference, go for the valves change. Also inspect and replace other things, your mechanic can advise these.

Most probably, your mechanic would already suggest that, because I also consulted 2 Suzuki 3S shops and they told me the same things above.

It took me whole day 10AM to 9PM at the workshop. I would suggest that you or anyone should be there to see the worn out parts and the new ones that they put.

Let me know if you want other details.
