Default NEED Help cultus Engine in 1990 subaru justy

    Hi guys,
I want to know whether it would be a wise decision to put a cultus engine in my subaru 1990 justy.

Also how much alteration is required ?

    Thanks

rebuild it - swapping will cost you dear money and considerable headaches as half the parts used to make it work will be handcrafted - meaning come next maintenance time - be prepared to spend huge amounts again.

Get your engine evaluated by a proper mechanics shop - and then ask for the engine parts prices. Subarus are pretty sturdy engines - its just that our mechanics screw them up in setting the timing belt and the owner pours plain water to cool it - which eats away the water/oil pump assy

i actually witnessed one subura getting cultus swap in mithu khan
the guys of that area told me all old cars like charades, subura's getting cultus swaps
making cutlus engine and gear prices hike in second hand
Life is short and very unpredictable just like a Quarter mile .....

Its pretty funny that our mechanics botch up the justy engine, I bought a 1989 roo justy in 1997 with dead engine and botched electrics for about Rs 50,000/- overhauled the engine and fixed the electrics A/C etc - used it as a second (just in case) car and was later sold for thrice the buying price to a pestering guy who used to bug me every week to sell it.

It was pretty fun fixing the A/C as to take the compressor out of the car - you need to unbolt the brake cylinder/booster, Same fun was fixing the rear suspension - full IRS. Handled real good I remember

Its a very sturdy machine like all subarus, usually mishandled and beaten to death because people buying a cheap car think CHEAP maintenance.

Why not stick a Charade 1.0 engine in there if your original "roo" is dead beyond repair and you cannot find its original replacement.

i feel sorry for this poor car got flopped due to our mechanics, even my mechanic used to call it "suba ro sham ro" its a preety decent car but now the spares r hardly available, i wud recommend 2 rebuild engine with similar parts if not available, have seen vitz engine swapped in it which require lot of efforts/money, i personally dnt like swapped engines which require foundation alterations, not a good choice.

ask these same mechanics what they used to seal the oil/water pump assy to the block? or what are the correct timing marks for the timing and balancer belts? Or even ask them do they know how to bleed air from the cooling system?

I can bet all my money they wont know any of the above... Subaru engines are known the world over to survive any sort of running torture, except in Pakistan where "jugaroo" mechanics proceed to completely screw up the car and then blame the manufacturer that parts are too expensive.

The little 3 cyl is actually based on the suzuki G10 but has forged pistons (hence they are kept loose in the bores), the con rods are fracture split forged items and a nitrided connecting rod, the head has excellent cooling channels. Sadly all of this is "FAIL" in Pakistan where mechanic ustaad opens it up to replace piston rings and finds the pistons very free in the bores, gives it to lathe ustaad who installs new sleeves (effs up the block beyond repair)

The real problem to the oil consumption usually was worn valve seals.
