    Default cultus hydrolic tappet adjustment

    hey fellas ,
as we all know cultus is equipped with hydrolic tappets , my question is do we need to adjust the tappet of cultus , my cng mechanic said sir jee i have to open the cover and see if the tappets are jammed i said bhai i heard cultus doesnt need tappet adjustment he said yea but your rpm is not stabbling and engine is not in stable position so i have to see if your tappets are open or jammed does it makes sense ? if yes what would be the remedy thanks in advance for your precious comments .

you were looking at 4 cyl cultus or 3 cyl cultus engines? - the 4 cyl EFI engines have screw adjustable rocker arms - the 3 cyl engine has non-adjustable hydraulic buckets. If they cannot see buckets in the picture then they are blind or plain stupid or trying to fool you.

The buckets in the picture are trapped beneath the camshaft - they depress when the lobe rotates towards them. In the arm system, the arms depress the valves when the cam lobes rotate upwards lifting the arms on their pivots.

btw why did they have so many cultus there with this problem?

OK can someone with a 3 cyl cultus go to this dealership and ask them to correctly adjust their valve tappets for Rs 600/- and request that you see the work being done.

Its simply not possible - and if they said no to bucket over valve - what do they call the round oil filled piston like device that is depressing the valves on the cultus 3 cyl engine.

if the engine in question has rocker arms and screws, its adjustable, ofcourse

on the other hand, if it has bucket type valve lifters, it isnt adjustable per se, because the lifter doesnt have any screws or anything adjustable in them. Unless the suzuki guys call cleaning out the buckets and checking it all as adjustment, it cant be done. they can be replaced, but not adjusted.

and if suzuki guys keep BS-ing you, dont take our word for it, search for it yourself...."hydraulic lifters"

this article explains the two types of lifters being talked about:

How Do Car Engine Lifters Work? | eHow.com

    @ahsanonline
Two years ago I bought cultus 2002, some work was done on it. Few days back I took it to my roadside mechanic who opened and serviced carburetor. Engine is weak and consumes engine oil, after turning on engine I get black smoke and mileage around 7 km /l,
It's like driving a Buick. Can you tell me a reliable mechanic (not authorized workshop) in Rawalpindi who can fix this carb and give me good mileage.

Today gone to mechanic regarding tappet noise issue. He opens the tappet cover and check lifters one by one by stick and found that " head ki 3 tikkian loose hain play hai in mai buhat jis ki wajah sai awaz kartay hain tappet" he advised to put these 3 new then problem should resolved. But I want to confirm from experts before done this job. Will this solution help to solve problem of annoying tickling noise and power-loss?? I take pic from Pakwheel thread and circle the diagnosed area by mechanic for referencecultus hydrolic tappet adjustment -1421502

    Experts please guide regarding issue

is your engine dirty from inside? you might need to run a cleaner in the engine before oil change - it might rectify the lifters, if not then buy 6 new lifters and replace all of them, they come in a very hard blister pack as new parts. These are very long life items as long as you dont let the mechanic mess with them every time.

Before replacing the tappets and you are sure your engine is super dirty remove the camshaft and remove each lifter one by one and keep them in the correct order - clean the tappets with kerosene and some fresh ATF, if you are taking the lifter apart then very carefully label each one so their internal parts in the correct order - dont mix up internal parts or even swap the lifters from one valve to another.

    It may correct itself.

Now lets assume you have installed new lifters and still have noise then check oil pressure and cleanliness of the engine.

Xulfiqar bro thanks million for your detailed guidance and time. Yes inner picture of head seems dirty and i was planning to do engine flush before changing oil. 2 Lifters of centre cylinder shows much play and easily press down if pushes by stick.

One more thing which confuses that why tappets behave normall means no ratling tik tik noise no loss in power till engine reaches its optimum temperature? Is any thing else other than lifters needs to be replace ?

AOA. Brother i was having exactly the same problem as u r facing i.e no ticking noise when engine is cold and starts as soon as engine gets warmer and then never goes away.
I went to mechanic, he opened head cover and found that 2 were hard and 4 were soft, or vice versa actually i forgot but they all were not behaving alike. He took out these 6 tappets, cleaned them and put them back (he did not mark their places) asked me to put thicker oil 10W40 as previously i was using zic A+...So nothing happened.noise remained same.
I did not give up, went to another mechanic. He told a different story that tappets are fine.some part (a semi circle mettalic piece) present at the end of camshaft where it meets with timing belt chain....it needs work to be done by "kharadia"...After doing all this when i started engine, it was amazing no ticking and even smoother than before at cold startup...i told him let me drive for some time so that engine gets warmer..As heat gauge reached mid tick tick sound again started but less than that it used to produce before....Mechanic told me that the part which was sent to kharadia, a similar is present below below that camshaft same needs to be done to it.I refused as i did not want him to practice on my car.
Now i observe that tick tick vanishes after 3k rpm even when engine gets warmer, previously it vanished after 5k rpm.But still issue is there as i have to drive below 3k rpm

check the oil pressure and also check the oil galleries on the cam bearings. if the clearance is too sloppy you will have serious noise issues.
