Default changing cultus gear oil and gear garari khar khar !!

i bought this 2001 cultus vxl 5 years ago , i change all oils including gear oil 5 years ago since than car hardly ran 5k , if i remember correct i put darham dubai gear oil which was best at that time , any how i notice gear garari khar khar since than especially in summer , now i went to gear wala and he said theres no solution to that unless u want to remove the gear box and than re assemble that again , i ask him if i remove the gear oil and put new zic patla wala 75 to 90 viscosity gear oil he said its a risk either that will remove the noise or noise will heard more after that , so i am looking for a solution here if possible , many thanks.

P.s : what is the recommended cultus gear oil with viscosity please thanks !! and what would be the correct measure we need to put in cultus ? .

    kind regards .

the factory recommeded oil is gl3 or gl4 with 75w85 or straight 90 viscosity and the gear oil should say good for sychronizer gearboxes. caltex zic shell total mobol packaged oil says that. what you are experincing is sticking or worn down sychronizers. This wear is accelerated by using non spec gear oil and extreme heavy gear oil.

btw shifting crash is synchronizer or clutch assembly fault
constant grinding rocks hum is worn out gear teeth.

i pour dirham se140 gear oil which seems wrong viscosity anyways so would u recommend to pour zic 90 se viscosity gear oil , one of pakwheel fella recommend not to take out the whole old gear oil just pour another half litre se 90 viscosity gear oil and it will hopefully solve the problem !! what u suggest ? a complete drain or add half litre with old gear oil ?

I did this recently on a 2005 cultus and it needed 2.5l as well... the best way to put in the oil is via the speedometer cable entry into the gear box...

@Xulfiqar Sir, I know its an off topic question, but I need you opinion regarding gear oil change of my coure 2006.
Last saturday I changed gear oil of my car, new oil was zic GL4 75w85. The problem is that it was used only about 1.5L. When I asked isnt it the less quantity? the mechanic there said he has checked it. Then upon my request he again opened the bolt and checked again and said "sir aap fikar na kerain, pura hai". the question is that
    is this the right quantity??
what would be the symptoms of less (if it is) gear oil in my car??
kindly mention my name in reply.
    thanks in advance

if its less u will hear the same sound which i mentioned in my topic , basically if gear oil is less than it wont reach the galleries upon cold start and it will take time to spray every where if all ok and u wont hear any abnormal voice in the morning especially than your car is fine , rest i am not a expert xulfiqar will explain and guide us more .

I cant hear any noise from my gear box, is that noise produced on running car, or its also on still car??
and is there any movement in gear box on still car?? doesnt it work only when car is in gear/moving??

thats a good start that u wont hear any abnormal voice , anyways the voice is like ghar ghar in idle state when car is cold and its noticable , so u are fine dont mess with gear box any more .

    Arrow 5th gear noise

Noise of the 5th gear is a common problem with Khyber and Cultus (both have the same gearbox). Though I don't know its solution, it is always best to bear with the noise as is, since if you open up the gearbox, you'll have a terrible time finding the proper sealant which would work for a long time. Usually our mechanics use Bossil RTV (Bossil is a Malaysian brand), gear oil eats it quickly and then you have a leaking gearbox.

Also, do not use 140 weight gear oil is modern FWD gearboxes. Now you would ask Cultus is not a modern technology. By modern I mean anything from the last 30 years.

Remember to use GL-4 gear oil in FWD gear box. GL-5 is EP (extreme pressure) oil and only suitable for differential in RWD cars. Even in RWD cars, for the gearbox use GL-4, and for the differential use GL-5.

If you look at the labels, you will find that mostly GL-5 oils are heavy weight and GL-4 are lighter.

In the GL-4 oils, I found ZIC gear FF to be good. The gear shift doesn't feel heavy at all even when you shift it in 3-4 degrees centigrade. With all the other oils, PSO etc. I found that winter driving is difficult in the morning, even when the viscosity used is same (like 75W-85).

NOTE: ZIC gear FF is synthetic oil, thinner than most others and also twice as expensive. But it is something you have to change only once in a while, its worth the expense.

NOTE: The viscosity grade of ZIC gear FF (or any other oil e.g PSO gear) may fall slightly different from that specified in the owner's manual - but manual gearboxes are extremely tough. It is better to put in some reliable liquid which is 19-20 rather than some unknown brand which could be exact on the label but no surety what it is actually. Also, synthetic oils have very consistent performance over a wide range of environmental conditions.

NOTE: In my experience with old gearboxes (~20 years old), means gearboxes with old rubber, ZIC gear FF caused sweating on the rubber seals of gearbox. But no big leakage. Droplets weren't noted on ground.

ABOUT REFILLING FROM THE SPEEDOMETER (VSS):

Most mechanics out of laziness fill by removing the speedometer unit and putting a funnel there. This will sure result in overfilling and soon the seals would leak/burst and you will be pulling out the gearbox the replace the seals (which means additional time and money). Best way is to use the leveling nut. You do NOT need to pour in any more oil than required. Manual gearboxes do not have an oil pump like the engine (automatics do have - at least some). Oil is lifted by the gears (cogs) and thus gets on each part where it is required. It is not required to submerge in oil every part of the gearbox just like an aquarium.
Remember - with any machine - a little less oil is acceptable (as far as it is above the minimum mark) but even a little overfill is going to cause many problems (leaking seals, reduced machine life due to oil frothing etc.).
