I didn't switched to this viscosity but it was being used when I purchased it last year. Every mechanic and oil shop guys say to go for 20w50 so I am using shell hx 3
nasir bhai i read somewhere that you cant switch back to thinner oil after using thicker oil as engine gets kind of adopted to it. But i still think it should not have been poured in earlier. the mileage 83k might not be genuine until and unless you are the first owner. it could be 183k.
Mostly wear and tear is during cold startup and aggravated by using thicker oil, absence of thermostat valve and direct fan. A perfect recipe for disaster especially during winters. END OF STORY

Yes dear, I am now sticking to 20w50 and not changing back to 10w40 as mileage is more now no matter if its 83k or 183k, its in old category now. but don't understand how engine is adapted to thicker oil

use thin oil, if it burns , replace early with thick oil, if not, continue using it...

hmmmm...... mechanics say it will cause more wear and tear and car might heat up due to less viscosity... any hazard while trying 10w40? and yes there is very minute leakage due to which there is slight reduction in level (200ml) after 1000 km

On a related subject, here is a scan from a Khyber's manual. Note that it doesn't even mention 20w-50.

@Eddy5 I don't have a Wagon R manual, but it also recommends 0w-20. Here you go: Paksuzuki Wagon R Owner's Club (see post 5587)

Good, but not necessary for carby cultus, it doesn't have flat rockers.

I recommended shell, because he was already using shell oil.
