Cultus was first introcuded world wide in 1989. It is 16 year old technology vs the Hyndai which is a much more modern car, just for that I would pick a Santro over the Cultus.

    Hi,
I faced a similar dilemma sometime back when I was about to buy my car. After a lot of research and market feedback, I decided to buy a Santro. I have been using the Santro for almost 6 months now. ABSOLUTELY NO REGRETS !!!

The only edge that a cultus has over a santro is the leg space. In every other area, santro beats the cultus.

    batista,
I didn't face any problems. Just one small thing that the seat made some creaking noises but that was replaced promptly by the Hyundai people free of cost. Spare parts are also no problem. And if you are buying a new santro, you shouldn't worry about spare parts for a long time !

In my opinion, if you are buying a brand new car, then you should not be worrying about spare parts (except oil filter, of course) for a long long time. Tell me one good reason why a part in the engine or chasis should be replaced when you have just got the car out of the showroom? If you need spare parts for a brand new Cultus, dude! there is a problem with the car!

    Hey Fahdi!

I never said Cultus had a problem. All I said was that if you are needing spare parts for a brand new car, that means the car is faulty/sub-standard.

Now, let me come to the technical specs where Santro outperforms Cultus. Cultus is based on the standard internal-combustion carburator based engine. This engine is purely mechanical in nature hence has no idea on how much fuel to pump into the carburator at what time. Hence, what happens is that the same amount of fuel is pumped at all times into the carburator no matter what the status of the car. What this effectively does is that in case you are striving for acceleration, less than required fuel is present and this decreases acceleration. Same happens if you are going up uphill. If you are standing still with the engine on (for example on a traffic light), then more than the required fuel is provided which decreases efficiency.

Santro has a multipoint fuel injection (MPFI) engine. It has sensors all over the engine to detect what sort of environment the car is running in. Whether it needs more fuel or less fuel. The fuel is injected directly into the cylinders accordingly without going through a carburator (there is no carburator is a Santro). Hence, the fuel efficiency is increased.

Another area where Santro has an edge over Cultus is that Santro has 4 cylinders whereas Cultus has only 3. 4 cylinders help with a better acceleration.

Now let's talk numbers. Santro generates 55 horsepower at 5700 RPM. Cultus generates 55 horsepower at 5800 RPM. As you can see, there is a difference of 100 RPM between the 2 readings. This means higher engine turning for Cultus which automatically implies higher fuel consumption.

The horsepower that is generated by both cars is the same. I think you would probably know that Santro weighs less than Cultus. Hence the power to weight ratio of Santro is better than Cultus. Which autmatically makes it a faster and more economical car.

With all these benefits, Santro is a cheaper car than the Cultus (atleast it was back when I bought it!).

The only area where I feel Cultus is better than the Santro is that it has more leg space.

Now I would like to re-emphasize that there is nothing WRONG with Cultus. It is just that Santro is a better car.

    Cheers!

oh my gaud! such a lobely topic and i missed it. ****. anyways, i back up all those guys saying Santro because firstly even a plain santro is better than a plain cultus esp in terms of brakes. the drive's much more fun too. the only pain is that one has to get used to the pedals which are low because the seats are high. coming to th exec, there's no comparision for that man. you get an MP3 AND CD player in addition to the chrome grills and high mounted brake lamp which sort of, looks cool. the only prob with the exec though is
    1) the exec's seats are slightly uncomfortable compared to the club and
    2) as someone already mentioned, the seats creek.
You must've made yer decision but let me tell you that ive used both, a lot. a cousin of mine was dying after the cultus whihc, admittedly, does have a better and respectable shape but now is happy driving around here exec. oh! my dad hates sitting in the exec though. but if its for ppl like us, there's nothin better. yes! it also has 4 speakers.

Yes overall Santro is a better car.
I bought a CULTUS VXL and I have realised now that I should have bought a SANTRO. I just hate the way it sounds. CULTUS has super duper expensive body parts and the water proofing of the side windows is not good so every time it rains the power windows get jammed.

I do agree that Cultus performs better (dont know why)but not every one races his car.

But there is one thing SANTRO doesnt have and that an AWSOME AC. CULTUS ka AC is simply AWSOME.

Santro is much better than Cultus. Santro comes with EFI whereas Cultus still using old technology. Don't go for the looks. Santro has powerful airconditioner and its fuel economy is excellent.

Santro does get less marks in looks but it is Pakistan, and you have to agree with the manufacturers for using third class material in the cabin.

If you can afford, go for some foriegn assembled car.
