    Default Suggestion Required: Cultus EPS vs HPS

    Hi PW Users,
    I need some advice on Power Steering for my 2004 Cultus.
    Where can I get EPS kit in khi? And what are the installation procedures? What will be the expected total cost?
    Is EPS better or HPS?
    I have heard that imported Cultus EPS kits are available from Sher Shah market for use in local Cultus... Will this work good?
    I dont want any thing that require constant and frequent maintainence
    Please suggest...

    Nice work Zank. I was reading somewhere that EPS power steering not only work in helping you in turning the steering there is also a function in eps that makes steering comes back to its normal position.

    BTW i was wondering with a little modifications we can fit this steering in other cars as well?

    Like i installed HPS in my charade g11 i am happy with it working fine but this EPS setup looks way simple than HPS.

    Do ask you mechanic if he thinks this kind of modification is possible?

    EPS is always better in smaller cars.. Since it uses electric motors to drive so less engine power is used, however HPS is totally based on your engine and is not suitable for a 1.0L car. I think you will not find any difference with your current steering situation if you install an HPS. Go for EPS its always better.

    shqasmi can you tell me why hps is bad for 1000cc cars?

    I installed it in my charade g11 and its working gr8 i didnt even touch the race its on normal settings.

    When i switch head lights that alternator puts more load on engine than my HPS.

    @Usman

    common buddy, there is very little risk...what i like most is that the stock steering rack shall be used...any ways i will hopefully make a plan with @Zank and check it out in person

    @Zank

    understood. My cultus is EFI but i believe it also passes speed data via analogue mode too

    ^ not too sure but i have heard that driving a car with EPS in heavy traffic where steering here n there is involved a lot, will eventually heat up the control unit of EPS and also puts load on car battery..
    the other thing that i have heard is that if EPS malfunctions it becomes almost impossible to steer the car while in HPS the steering does become too hard in case of any disorder but still allows you to steer the car... i might be wrong but this is something that i have heard

    i will always prefer EPS or HPS as stock i have never fiddled with these things ever...

    @UsmanAnsari:
    First of all, its good to be late than never so you are welcomed here, and good to hear you.

    I have tested this "over heating" problem today in the parking of AKUH under scorching sun (I was waiting so utilized my time somehow), making continuous turns left and right for quite a good time with touching and feeling the motor and ECU part in the column. It was all good, no such concerns for me.
    I had that thing in my mind also prior to installation (also asked the electrician for not to make thin wires touching the motor and ECU body), and its good to see that it is not over heating.

    I had also heard, prior to installations, that if any electronic unit in EPS fails (like ECU/motor/sensor), the whole car comes to a stop. This is all a bogus hoax
    I have driven my car the whole day as my wiring was not proper and EPS kit was not on. So if anything fails, the manual one is there for you to drive (just get the connectors out of the card and test it yourself )

    So your raised both concerns have been answered
    Now, reh gaayi baat Factory Fitted kee, tau I'm more happy to use Made in Japan units installed in my car then the ones made by Pak Suzuki You can say it as my personal taste of things :p

    By the way, that steering wheel not coming back problem has been solved. It was due to the cross at the end of the rod.

    Yes, I think similar setup can be installed to any car. Its a simple setup.
    My mechanic is about to install it in the Corolla 86 in coming days.

    @Vaqas1:
    HPS uses the engine power continuously for its oil pump. This way it eats a bit of HP, thats why SHQasmi is saying so.
    It also decreases fuel efficiency by approx 3%, that is your car would run 97 Kms in place of 100 Kms in equal fuel.

    @AkberGr8:
    Yaar, I think EFi Cultus has analog speedometer too. By the way I was searching for wiring of speed sensors sometime ago and found a small handy device of "Corsa C" at Ebay that connects with Analog speedometer and gives input to ECU. So that the ECU can sense speed also. It was costing $25 new Dont think we can find it over here.

    @AkberGr8:
    Yaar the cross is there at the end of rod that moves when you move the steering wheel. It connects to the shaft that is connected to the rack and helps moving the types. I hop I'm correct in this theory
    This cross was not moving freely, when it was taken out (kind of freezing temporarily in the movement). Some slight careful hammering and adjustment of bolts from my mechanic made it to move freely. I wish I could have pics of this component

    About digital speedometer signals, I cant find the ebay link, but take a look at the product in here, you will have an idea:

    Plus read this thread, it is quite usefull too:

    @All
    Please suggest how could I get over this this speedometer related problem. That is, how to get speed signals from a analog mechanical speedo (like in Cultus) and give input to the ECU.
    According to the info relating to EPS, it senses speed and work acordingly to that. It even gets off over speeds greater than 60 Kmph.

    It would be great if I could connect this feature on my Cultus Anyways, its still not bad
