    Default Suggestion Required: Cultus EPS vs HPS

    Hi PW Users,
    I need some advice on Power Steering for my 2004 Cultus.
    Where can I get EPS kit in khi? And what are the installation procedures? What will be the expected total cost?
    Is EPS better or HPS?
    I have heard that imported Cultus EPS kits are available from Sher Shah market for use in local Cultus... Will this work good?
    I dont want any thing that require constant and frequent maintainence
    Please suggest...

    And what is your affiliation with it?

    ^^ lolz Vaqas1, yeah thats the cross I was talking about
    Uss waqt pic ka zehn mein nahin aaya, thanks man

    And yes, you have a very good suggestion about switching off the EPS kit. It can be done very easily. I will think about it, but after using EPS for some days my hands are now set on the wheels accordingly. So its not that dangerous for me now. Well, I will drive on highways and post you guys if this totka is needed or not...

    Sorry boss, I just missed your message on my thread. You can contact me anytime you like at 0333-361-6-361. You can have the idea about what to do in setting this thing up.
    Uhh, I forgot to ask... Have you got the steering changed to powered ones or still not? Sorry again for not replying promptly.

    Some power of the engine is used for steering in HPS. In EPS it is handled electronically and hence more power is available at the wheels.
    HPS feels tighter than EPS and many like tight steering.
    something fishy about number of total posts !!!!

    @Zank,
    How is your EPS performing? Today i went to Bilal Gunj and found this thing. The price he was asking is Rs. 5000 and 2000 for installation.
    The mechanic was saying that he needs to have some electric welding as alteration and the cross will also be changed. Please advise.

    @Zank,
    Yes buddy i called you and bothered you on your weeding days ;-). Congrats man. BTW the EPS experiment was successful and i am more than satisfied.

    @All,
    For Lahore you can purchase the stuff from Imran Butt in Bilal Gunj (03004123897) and for installation you can consult Lucky auto's (03004070918, 04237114597); his shop is also in Bilal Gunj.
    Cost is EPS Kit =5K, Installation = 3K.

    Default EPS' a better Option any time.

    Hi all....
    nice to be in u'r forum.sorry if ibanged in.
    Well I was just going thru' u'r posts regarding EPS!! I think there is some hoax floated in regards of EPS. Its there all over the world. KINDLY refer my attached images (3no.s all jpg). This shall give you a clear picture regarding 'EPS"
    Suggestion Required: Cultus EPS vs HPS - 49511attach

    Suggestion Required: Cultus EPS vs HPS - 49512attach

    Suggestion Required: Cultus EPS vs HPS - 49513attach

    First attachment shows the PS module u' all r' refering to. This is made by Mitsubishi for suzuki.
    It has 3 connectors (refer second attachment) Further all connector pins are named respectively.
    Last but not the least (refer my third attachment). This shall clarify doubts for all.

    Now let me explain 1by1,
    EPS is being used by me for past 8 years!.. with NIL maintainance. In general EPS is lightr than hyd-PS infact it can be operAted with single finger! It is much BETTER TECHnology & much SAFER compared to Hyd-PS. Perhaps thats why recently all new sereis of Benz , BMW, Honda, Chervelot etc are using EPS.
    How ever there is one hypothetical problem!!
    Some people dont like a very light steering... They just find it like a toy.!!
    OTHERWISE its gem of a technology... beleive me.. coz i am automobiLe enthusiast but also a ROBOTIC hobyist (!!BY PROFESSION I AM ARCHITECT). EPS technology is sophisticated. It process tons of information for better results. THE GREEN connector is all wired from various sensors (refer Attachment-3).
    ***IMP**for those who were worried bou't SAFETY! PLS refer connector B4 & B3--- They are clutch outputs. Y-E-S '' AS VEHICLE SPEED INCREASES this magnetic clutch loosens MOTOR torque and ENSURE OUR SAFETY...HOPE AAB KUCH ITminan HUA ho.. further approximately at speed of 60 kmph this clutch disengages totally; again AAP KI HIFAZAT KE LIYE DOSTON".
    OK' NOW 2nd HOAX'::
    If u turn "FULL LEFT OR RIGHT AND CONTINUE HOLDING THAT WAY", the TORQUE sensor-1 commands maximum voltage to MOTOR ASSIST. BUT WHEN THIS MAX condition stays for more than 300 millisecond' a LOGIC controlled COMMAND is ISSUED to RESET TORQUE SENSOR-1... (clever heh) and simultaneously the SYSTEM looks into TORQUE SENSOR-2 for further USER variation (ie' if user has released the lock position or not).. BY 300 milliseconds the motor & motor controller circuit does get heated up... BUT FREINDS HAVE A CLOSER LOOK!!!! IF U' JUST UNSCREW THE eps CONTROLLER UNIT FROM EPS ASSEMBLY , U' WILL NOTICE THAT IT WAS FLUSHED WITH A THICK ALUMINIUM PLATE ON THE REAR OF CONTROLLER. THIS ALUMINIUM IS NOTHING BUT A "HEAT SINK"... YES THE LAST STAGE OF CIRCUIT CONSISTS OF 4 OR 6 igBT'S (KIND OF MOSFETS). THEY GET HOT BUT IT GETS DISSIPATED THROUGH ALUMINIUM PLATE QUICKLY.

    PLS NOTE THAT ABOVE SAID CONDITION IS THE WORST CONDITION FOR HYD_PS system & IT SEEMS THIS IS THE REASON FOR ITS FAILIURE TOO..
    MORE OVER THERE WERE TIMES WHEN HYD_PS System HAS BURSTED while holding the steering on complete left/RIGHT. AND B'coz of this danger they started providing mandatory pressure release valve within HYD-PS pump assembly.
    Well HOpe u' all have understood about EPS by now. Sorry for loooong post.

    *** IN INDIA THIS UNITS COSTS 4K APPROX. FOR WHOLE ASSEMBLY (THROUGH MARUTI SUZUKI). tHE CONTROLLER MODULE COSTS 2K APPROX.
    iN INDIA VISHAY SEMICONDUCTORS MAKE THE CHIP USED IN CHERVELOT EPS. THE 78 PIN IC IS AROUND 550/- RS.
    A CONTROLLER BASED ON THIS CHIP IS DEVELOPED BY POWTRONICS CHENNAI; IT IS FOR CHERVELOT & COSTS 2K- BUT SINCE WE KNOW THE PIN DETAILS WE CAN MODIFY IT FOR USE IN SUZUKI OR OTHER VEHICLES.

    so we have seen 2 Altos and a Cultus getting converted to EPS and both the cars are using systems of other or similar like Suzukis.

    just being curious can this be done on a mehran to? and Baleno too

    does this system requires you to have a EFI (ecu car)
    Get over the fact that Xli lacks power windows, Its an Xli because it lacks thoose features or else it would be a Gli or an Altis if had all the goodies.

    This system does not require to have an EFi car, as mine was Carby Cultus as well as the Altos.
    This can be implemented upon any car practically, you just have to adjust the steering column and the cross though. I'm not certain that these japanese assemblies will fit easily into Merans and Balenos. But I'm sure they can be with some modifications. My mechanic has upgraded a Charade '86 too last week with similar setup.
