Default Swapping An Automatic Gearbox in Daihatsu Cuore

    Hi Guys,

I need some help. I currently have a M/T Dihatsu Cuore and want to convert it to Automatic Transmission. I need help with the following:

    1. What will be the cost of acquiring an A/T gearbox - complete including the shifter stick and all - if I don't want to give my manual gearbox in exchange?

    2. Will it be a hassle free, bolt-on swap - since the car doesn't have efi and ECU and the engine is also the same as the one in the A/T variant. If not, what problems can I expect?

    3. I need to know a good mechanic for this job, I don't trust my current ones. So far I have been recommended to go to Master Tariq at Nipa, but i've also heard he's not all that and recently has a lot of unhappy customers.

I would really appreciate any helpful replies from members. Anything that you think would help me out with this, please do share. If someone has had experience with such a swap, please leave me a no. and I will contact you for assistance.

    Thanks.

The pain of war cannot exceed the woe of aftermath.

dont do it. it is a pointless quest and there is no one in pakistan who can install gearboxes better than the car factory. swaping from auto to manual makes some sense if you want to use CNG etc to run a little engine.

Sell the manual, buy an auto.

Simple and effective. A swap thing is going to be a *****.

If you mean Tariq bhai at NIPA his work is good. The 'unhappy customers' are usually the ones who take shortcuts. Most of the work there is high end tuning or swaps, which cant have any shortcuts

    Buy an Auto Tranny
    Open your Bonnet
Unscrew the 4 screws under the engine and Take out your Manual tranny,
Put the Auto tranny and Place the screws back again
    Start your car
Go to a nearby Drug dealer
Buy a small brain, Big one might not fit properly
and then sell your car and buy an A/T Cuore,
A/T cuore doesnt has a good resale hence you will get a cheap one , and on the end of the day you might save some money

@juadjee: It has to be a lot simpler, compared to EFi cars, with a lot of pain and regret. But there is an autoish converted Mehran on Pakwheels - so if you're still in it please visit the junk yard and have some professional opinions. Cost could be something around 20-25K I'm guessing.

to the thread maker no one supported u,but i am here tosupport u,i can only give the answers so some of your question, its that hard to puta automatic trannyy on a car,but u need to have a transmission controller not ECU its called Transmission controll manager(TCM) or TCU,without it the car cant shift the gear automatically though u can run the car but the semi automatic way like first in L gear then getting a speed a 0f 30km then d2 and then D,i recently swaped my cultus with auto matic tranny engine G15 the car is great you can come and have a look at my car i live in gulshan karachi, though as far as the mounts are concerned u just need to put just one extra mount on the tranny side which is left offcourse.send me a pm we can talk if u would like too.dont worry for electricworks its not a hassle ur car will be running in 1.5 weeks max.

the local carby coure does not use a TCM to shift - the jap ones do, just like the G100 charade had - a small box to control the 2 shifting solenoids to select all speeds.

The transmission found in our indus motors cuore is quite different from the ones you will source at the junkyard - as our local cars use 0.85 litre carby engine hence use a transmission with a lower final drive, larger clutches and a more robust torque convertor that locks up solely on governor pressure, unlike the ones you get on a turbo 660 with solenoid shifting and lower top speed with a weaker torque input at lower revs

IMO it will be hard to find a serviceable 850cc hydraulic controlled cuore transmission as nearly all are installed in cars and none are being imported in junk.

Its better to stick with what you have until you can find a nice working transmission. To swap is very easy.

    The parts required are
    transmission
    flex plate
    torque convertor
    driveshafts
    radiator
    selector lever
    gauges
    pedal set

and finally remove dashpot from carb to induce engine braking on overrun

Why do you want to go for an auto transmission? From my experience of driving 2 seperate Auto Cuores, they stuggle in Auto Transmission, especially when the A/C is on...I find the manual version the best. Just my point of view.

the older automatics do not use a TCU - but have a speed governor which opens up as you speed up the vehicle - its driven off the end of the countershaft (or diff in a FWD box) and exposes different oilways to drop/return oil pressure on a certain clutch
