Default Daihatsu Mira 2007 fuel consumption

    Hello,

I have recently purchased Daihatsu Mira 2007 automatic. Its a marvelous and fun car to drive. But I am getting 11.5 to 11.75 Km/litre in Islamabad with air conditioner switched on most of the time. I have seen 18 to 27 km/litre reported on the internet, and also that this is car has the most efficient engine in the world. I just wanted to check if other people are getting a similar fuel consumption from this car. Furthermore, today Toyota I9 refused to provide service (tuning) for the car saying they are not 'equipped' to support imported cars (including Corolla Axiom). This is just crap and nothing mite than strong arm tactics to discourage sale of imported cars. The question I have is whether anyone knows a good garage/service shop of routine service of Mira and Axio in Islamabad. Thanks.

I have a 2010 Mira Custom. The fuel consumption can vary wildly depending on how you drive. If you push it hard, the average comes down considerably. Accelerate slowly and try to maintain a constant speed for as long as you can, then you will see the savings. You can get between 17-18km/ltr with a CVT or a manual transmission if you drive it carefully.

The second thing that affects fuel consumption is the transmission. A manual transmission or a CVT one will give you the best fuel average, followed by a four speed automatic and the most inefficient being the 3 speed automatic transmission.
Never argue with an idiot, they drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

    Adding my cents.

Mira 2008, Auto CVT, 37K driven, 2012 registered/import. Just changed the oil and oil filter thats it, air filter perfect, no need to change, plugs ok as long as its not giving starting trouble. Findings below:

    light foot on the throttle.
    RPM 2k-2.5k-3k max.
    speed 2k (50km/h) 2.5k (60m/h) 3k (75km/h)
totally agree with the releasing throttle technique of one of PW member mentioned earlier in this thread.
Giving me approx plus 15km/l in the city with ac on, ac speed also a considerable factor, i usually keep blower speed on 2 even in daytime as i dont like chilled cabin due to the fact that i have to get out of the car anytime directly in temperature 35 degrees avoiding "thanda garam". The lower the speed of your ac blower the more your ac compressor will trip automatically.
Mira 2008 having RPM meter with orange lights also have approx km/l average indicator in its odo, in initial acceleration the meter shows 5-10 km/l and once after reaching 40-45km/l and applying the release throttle technique the meter shows the consumption 18-20km/l as long as i maintain the speed till 60-65km/h.

over all experience: very good car with all the options of a luxury sedan like power windows, EPS, central locking, air bags, ABS, CVT auto, TV navigation. I bought it for 8 lacs. Comparing it with a local assembled Alto/Coure/Cultus/Mehran of 2012, everyone knows what these cars were costing after registration in 2012 where as these local manufactured cars are no way comparable to the JDMS.
You will beat us with technology and speed???? we will beat you with experience.

It's not mostly the fault of the car but rather what we have done with it causing fuel consumption issues. Did this sometime back, can alter for your specific car and it would surely help

A friend's alto 660cc was giving 16km/l on his usual route from jhelum to rwp through GT road, optimal speed of 80-90 km/hr and only one occupant. Since this average is unacceptable for a tiny car like this with a really fuel efficient engine we decided to tweak the little dinky and did the following stuff :

    1. Upon inspection it was found that the CAT was not removed, so broke it as the first step
    2. The throttle body was checked and it was DIRTYYYYY, so cleaned that up
    3. The plugs were worn out, stock DCPR7E NGK were sourced and installed with a gap of 0.8mm as per the stock specs
    4. The local air filter was replaced with leppon one which was the best option we would come up with at that time
    5. The auto transmission oil was changed some days back so it wasn't changed
    6. A good oil filter was kept for the next oil change since you do not visit the good shops that keep original stuff very often

Result : In the next trip the car gave an avg of 25 km/l, came from jhelum to rwp in 4 litres of fuel, this was better then what he used to get when the car was imported because these are used cars and do need a proper checkup before routine use :-)

The car is running on worn out stock tires, it would get a set of 145/80 R12 really soon

Work pending : The injectors are expected to be clogged so is the fuel filter, so liquimoly's fuel injector cleaner would be poured in and the fuel filter would be replaced after inspection. Wasn't available on the day we worked on the car

Note : When the injector cleaner is poured in, do not expect a better economy in that tank because the fuel will burn faster, notice it after that tank is completely spent and then you would be able to note the difference in economy, although the difference in performance would be noticeable in the first tank specially better idle

    Dear Mr. Shehzad Khatak,
though i read your post so late, but if you read my reply
here is the remedy for your car for low cunsumption,
i am running a Tune-up center at Rawalpindi Gulzar-e-Quaid and in Islamabad
    near Abpara Rchade palaza
i have recently got a electronic device made by electronic engineer,
which reduce emission and make your car fuel efficient from 11 kilometer to 18 kilometer per litter

I have 2011 Mira ES for now 2nd Year fuel average on GT road without AC is 27km/L, in Islamabad without AC 22Km/L, in Rawalpindi with AC is 18Km/L

Maximum achieved driving speed on motorway was 116KM/H

Average best fuel saving speed is 70Km/H

In one full tank of 25L it can go maximum of 675km.

With HiOctane average in local without AC improves to 25KM/L

With increase of weight and passengers with AC the average reduces to 16Km/L

All values taken on Tank to Tank top-up

    Thanks
