    Default How to install RPM / tachometer in Cuore?

    Guys, need some help, I got a DIY digital tachometer kit from Australia and spent two days doing soldering, assembling and testing.

    Now I am stuck to install it in the car, it has standard 3 wires for +12v, Ground and Coil -ve. I can see clearly in Mehran a wire going from the coil to the point which is the Coil -ve wire usually.

    However, in Cuore the small thing installed with the porcelin resistor looks very different. Can anybody guide me which wire to use?

    Also an electrician working on my Mehran said that tachometers are installed using a wire from the generator, never heard of this, what are your thoughts about this?

    Thanks in advance.

    @topracer

    are u okay dude !... the electrician is rite but the generator has pickup for Rpm only in Diesel cars...

    @taziix

    there is a plug.... very small white / tranparent under the distributor ..(from where the spark plug wires are ewmerging) .. u cant see it but feel it...pull it out .... it has two wire\s... one for 12v and one a coil -ve...(black)
    use the coil -ve and voila.... ur RPM works,,,

    make sure to give power to Tach (12v) only then u can see the actual rpm....

    Too lazy to get my own pic, so this is from an ECO

    How to install RPM tachometer in Cuore? -665859

    My understanding is:

    1. Coil
    2. Distributer
    3. Is this what @topracer is calling dynamo?
    4. In auto / non-CNG looks like no. 3 is positioned here?

    So the coil negtive wire has to run from the coil to the distributer.

    Is @topracer mixing up two different parts and he means the coil when he says "THAT BLACK CYLINDER"?

    If 2 is the distributer, I see a plastic plug with two wires connected, so you are talking about another plug that is not visible / blocked in sight and under the distributer? or it can be a different configuration in the automatic model.

    Is there a way to check the cable? I understand that it will generate some kind of a wave but I do not have an ossiloscope to check that.

    I will try to hookup the system in the hood for testing before installing it on the dash. I may want to wait till Wednessday for the installation when I get my first service, just one less suspicious wire in the hood

    Hello!
    u ppl are making it more complicated and useless yaar....

    Aftermarket TACHOMETER's comes with 3 wires.........!!

    1.RED(12Volt + Power) to power up the TACHO
    2.BLACK(its the ground.......for TACHO...)
    3.BLUE,YELLOW,GREEN(THE Tach Signal wire)

    1.simply power up the tacho connecting the + wire with 12V Positive............!

    2.Ground the black cable with any ground cable.....good ground is needed.......!!there are many grounds available near dash....!

    3. last and final.....the TACH Signal.......so that comes from (-) Negative of the Ign COIl.............
    just connect that wire to the negative of the ign coil to get good signal for Tacho.....!
    Thats all...
    its simple yaar won't make it complicated....!

    12V + , (-) Negative Ground , Tach Signal from (-) of IGN Coil.....
    thats the way of installing a TACHOMETER...!!

    @SER_GTR:

    Yes, it is very simple, but my question was about the coil -ve wire in cuore. I figured it out in a mehran because a separate open wire is installed from coil to distributer that is how I identify a coil -ve wire.

    I wanted to know the location / color of the wire in cuore to be safe instead of connecting the wire here and there.

    I'll send a few close ups to make my point in a couple of hours.

    Thanks everybody for your replies. @SER_GTR yes I did not want to blow this tacho as I made it from a DIY project so its a bit more than just a tacho for me

    The coil, could not find a safe suitable wire here

    The distributor close up, only one wire, test, BINGO!

    It works, looks cool, I am against taking pics while driving wrong power wire was giving current even when ignition off, so will find the correct one, I also think I blew up a 7805 voltage regulator as display went dead after 8 hours, but have to a proper installation after first service on Wednessday anyways.

    Hello!
    in the 1st pics...the white thing shown was a resistance installed before coil........!
    by the way u got that installed? and its working fine?
    if not....install the tach signal wire to the negative(-) of that resistance.....and then check...it will work......
    b/w.......the resistance wire is going into coil bcz current flows from resistance to coil........!

    @kkool, yes thanks man. Sure I'll appreciate the pic.

    @ser_gtr, I called that a porcelin resistor earlier. I touched the green wire daringly on a lot of open bolts in that area, and the socket with the coil does not have a black wire, which is at the distributor end. I installed it myself. And it is working, it is in temporarilly and will install it properly with other things on Sunday.

    @kdiesel, I ordered it online from an Australian DIY car kit shop www.jaycar.com along with an engine immobilizer and a screecher which is a car alarm to be installed in the cabin and is so nasty that nobody can drive a car unless that thing is silenced All three kits costed my AUS$ 129 but Pak gov imposed a 100% duty because they termed these as auto spare parts

    However, before you order from them, these are DIY kits and come as a silicon board with resistors, diodes, etc. in a plastic bag. It took me four days' first halves to assemble all three. And I studied electronics in my computer science major. I am not sure how doable this is for anybody.

    Another question, I may need to post it separately but lets see if I can get some info here.

    I went to 95 km/h today, the highest reading on the tacho was 4200 then auto trany shifted to 3rd gear at 65 km/h I was at 3700 at 95 km/h and do not want to go higher as mentioned in the manual for the first 1500 km.

    My question is, what would be the redline for Cuore's engine, I have calibarated the system to show the redline at 6000 rpm, is this safe? or should it be lower than that? I am not a person to drive faster than 100 and that too on super highway or an empty Sharah-e-Faisal so I think I will not go beyond 4500 rpm anyways.

    Hello!
    @tazzix.....
    so u finally got it work...........use the negative (-) one on resistor to get tach signals????????
    anywayz...ED-10 of cuore puts max 30Kw(40hp)@5500rpms...........
    max torque i.e 65Nm@3200RPM...
    so better let it shifted at 3200 or 3800 to get max torque and better milage...with better load bearing capacity....
    b/w for how much u get that digital tacho....??

    @ser_gtr, thanks a lot for the information, it is automatic so sometimes I let it shift on its own sometimes I let go the accelerator at medium revs to somewhat force an early shift. Flooring the accelerator forces the engine to rev high in least possible gear but I dont do that. And the green wire in the second picture is the signal for Tacho, the resistor terminals did not work for me. Also found out the display went blank because of wrong dimming settings of the night mode

    I think the pricing will help many people, so here is the information in AUSTRALIAN dollars, had to pay 4k for import duty of auto spare parts and had to solder and assemble these myself. The Tacho has a PIC 16F84 microcontroller and some cool customizations, digital and bargraph below it with redline LEDs also has a trigger for rev limiters but I think Cuore does not have one built-in.

    @SET_GTR, thats really a good bargain. I am looking for 86 rolla cluster, offcourse with tach. but since my ride is so original that I dont want to disasseble anything. So it better for me to install it externally.

    In Plaza I did find tachometers but they big and ugly. I was looking for digital and something smaller.

    If you find anything like tazziq has , let me know.

    Thanks,
