ok - first tell whats wrong with your car. For general tuning - remove distributor from engine by first spinning it to TDC - remove cover from timing light hole on transmission and remove Distributor cap - the rotor should point near plug 1 electrode and the TDC mark on the flywheel should line up in the inspection window on the transmission.
Unbolt and remove distributor - mark exactly where the rotor was pointing. remove the contact point set and condenser, spin the distibutor rotor to see the centrifugal weights, through the little holes in the base plate - apply 2 or 3 drops of engine oil to them. Check that the rotor snaps sharply back when released by holding drive gear.
Install new contact point set by first degreasing it with something moistened with petrol/alcohol/spirit - install in such a way that you can smoothly slide a 0.8mm feeler gauge between the distributor cam and contact arm heel. Apply the packaged grease to the cams and a drop or two of oil to the contact arm pivot. Install condensor and put distibutor back on engine by noting appropriate marks.
The rest is pretty easy, oil change, filter change (bumper access hole) - for carb cleanup - flood carby cleaner in the float bowl through the air nozzle.
Thats about it - and - yes the plugs need to be inspected etc. air/oil filters renewed as necessary.
