You forget the most crucial factor for the Lancer's price; DFML and DMMC. Yes they both come under the Dewan family, but somehow both have different priorities. While DMMC is behind the success of the Lancer, DFML has been known for burying the entire lineup of Kia (Classic, Spectra, Sportage) and has just got one foot in an open grave for the new lineup, and of course managing to keep Santro to sell a few units around the country and the Shehzore which has become a commercial success thanks to the right kind of marketing.
Now in all honesty, a 1.3 CNG Sedan like the Kia Classic for 550000 was probably the most sanest choice back then but when overpricing and the ever so dreadful 'own' money came into play, this real "value-for-money" car was driven right down into the ground. You might all wonder why I'm so critical about it since I got my classic real cheap. The only reason: I'm just shocked that if DFML didnt want these cars to actually make a mark, why bother?
Bottom line, DMMC could have done a way better job with the Kia Lineup if they gave it the same priority as they do to their Mitsubishi contract.
