get ur car checked..probably it needs a transmission fluid change. it should be shifting to 1st when u floor the gas even on a plain road when doing around 25-30km.
on hills, my prosmatec shifts to 1st at the slightest indication of the gas pedal..when i want to overtake or whatever. never given me the slightest problem.
regarding the gears:
D=All four forward gears are used and then torque converter locks up after achieving a steady cruising speed, acting as the 5th gear and further reducing the rpm. in other words starting from 0km/h to 120km/h u feel 5 gear changes...4 for the gears and 5th for the lockup.
D3 = Only gears 1,2 and 3 are used. no lockup. used when u dont want the car to shift in 4th/5th like when going DOWNHILL.or when trying to achieve top speeds. it is not necessary to shift into D3 when going uphill (common misconception). just a gesture of ur foot on gas pedal will make it shift into the required gear when going uphill. (w'll thats why it is an auto!!). i use D3 in stop and go city traffic because whenever i ease the gas pedal the car shifts into 4th and then a fraction of a second later i need to accelrate it shifts into third. so to avoid this cycling of gears i keep it in D3 in city.
2 =Car stays in 2nd all the time no lock up converter NO FIRST GEAR as well. used to reduce wheel spin whin starting off on slippery surface.
